It's a lie when a guy says he doesn't have enough money for a proper diamond ring.
If he isn't willing to put effort into something worthwhile, then it says much of the attitude he would have after marriage.

In the first place, why must it be a DIAMOND ring ?!? Its all been commercialized (just like santa) and the only ones laughing to the banks are the jewellers.
I personally believe the guy should buy a ring within his means (not necessarily a diamond ring) and not go into debt to buy one by maxing his credit card or borrowing/over draft/ah long.
Some of the ladies say if he really loved you he would get you one ... well I would say if you really love your man you should not be trying to put him into debt. Putting him into debt to prove his love, dun forget after you marry him you have to help him carry that burden.
If he buys expensive stuff for himself but scrimps on the ring its another thing ... but if clearly he can't afford it ... you should stop him, not allow him to go ahead, however much he loves you and wants to do it.

if he passes it off as a real diamond ring, then its a question of sincerity. But if the design is nice why not?
anyway I dont understand why need diamond also. My rings dont have diamonds on them. -
