Air quality may deteriorate further on Friday: NEA
SINGAPORE: Hazy conditions in Singapore are expected to persist through Friday (Oct 2), and the air quality could deteriorate further, said the National Environment Agency (NEA).
The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) for the next 24 hours is expected to be "between the high end of the Unhealthy range and the mid-section of the Very Unhealthy range, but may deteriorate to the high end of the Very Unhealthy range", said NEA in an advisory on Thursday.
The 24-hour PSI was mostly at Unhealthy levels throughout Thursday.
On Thursday, haze from Sumatra and Kalimantan was still spreading to large parts of the surrounding region, said the agency.

Air quality may see 'slight improvement' on Sunday: NEA
SINGAPORE: The drop in air quality on Saturday afternoon (Oct 3) was “due to haze from our surrounding region being blown in by the prevailing southerly winds”, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) in a media advisory.
NEA added that the haze conditions are expected to continue for the rest of Saturday, but there might be a slight improvement on Sunday. “The prevailing southerly winds are forecast to shift gradually to blow from the southeast,” it said.
The 24-hour PSI for the next 24 hours is expected to be between the high end of the Unhealthy range and the low end of the Very Unhealthy range, and may drop to the mid-level of the Unhealthy range if the haze conditions improve.
A total of 32 hotspots were detected in Sumatra, mainly in the southern region, said the NEA, adding that the low count was "due to cloud cover over parts of Sumatra".

Air quality improves, but possibility of denser haze on Monday
SINGAPORE: Air quality in Singapore has continued to improve gradually as prevailing southeasterly winds have kept denser haze from Sumatra away, the National Environment Agency said in a media advisory on Sunday (Oct 4).
As at 8pm on Sunday, the 24-hour PSI was 78-92, in the Moderate range, and the 3-hour PSI was 114.
NEA said 41 hotspots were detected in Sumatra on Sunday. The low count was due to cloud cover over parts of the island, it added.
Widespread haze has continued to persist in parts of central and southern Sumatra, NEA said. Some haze from Kalimantan is also observed to have spread to the sea areas southeast of Singapore.
"For the rest of today and tomorrow, the prevailing winds are forecast to blow from the east or southeast. Slightly hazy conditions can still be expected, and there is a possibility of some deterioration if denser haze from the surrounding region is blown in," said NEA.
It added that the 24-hour PSI for the next 24 hours is expected to be in the high end of the Moderate range and the low end of the Unhealthy range, and may enter the mid-section of the Unhealthy range if denser haze is blown into Singapore.
