Recently got Hooked by blackball, and wanna try making my own grass jelly. The thing is those pre-packaged stuff doesn't taste as good, and the powered make-your-own stuff is bad too. So any suggestions to find the chin chao grass? It goes by the name of Mesona chinensis apparently.
Usually I buy those grass jelly from wet markets and cut them into small pieces. Throw pandan leaves inside boiling water with sugar to make my own simple sugar syrup then mix witht he cut up grass jelly. Taste fine leh. One big piece of grass jelly usually about less than $1...
That is nice sure, but not the taste I wanted.
I prefer the blackball taste. Actually not just blackball, in sharetea, koi and gong cha, I realised their grass jelly taste different from those you buy at NTUC or soya bean stalls. Really loved that flavor, so I wanna recreate it.
I've tried buying grass jelly, blend it, and simmered it till it becomes liquid. But the taste is not there, despite adding sugar and stuff :(
Anyone know where to buy tapioca pearls in Singapore? Can't seem to find them anywhere :(

i don't take those prepacked chin chow drinks or chin chow cubes in Supermart .
last time i know of 1 old HDB shop in ubi industrial area making chin chow fresh and i used to buy a big chunk from them for home consumption. if i'm not wrong they also run a hawker stall at the Golden Mile Food Centre?
