Why is beer so expensive in Singapore?

A bottle cost S$5! And yet so many people drink as if it's tap water... Don't Singaporeans find it very very expensive?

If its $5 in singapore for the 640ml bottle, and $2 for the 330ml bottle in the bar? How does that add up?

$5 for 500ml btl where got expensive? In a pub a 3l tower would costs almost $100.

It's not just the tax. Yes there is customs duty on foreign beers but local beers are just keeping to similar pricing.
You have to bear in mind, Singapore economically is comparable to a city like Hong Kong, Shanghai, London, Paris etc. In any of those cities you'll pay a steep price for a quality beer in a nice bar.
If you want cheap beer, drink in a coffee shop. As the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'.
