Yesterday is Deepavali (should be Vesak Day). Have not gone to Chinatown Red Star Dim Sum Restaurant for yum cha, so went yesterday. The queue is so long, no prior booking is allowed and it is first come first serve basis.
The restaurant still has the traditional trolley ladies pushing the dim sum from table to table and the ladies will chop a small circle on the card on each dim sum taken. Very nostalogic leh.
The dim sum is good and cheap and there are a lot of varieties of the dim sum.

Oops, sorry, it is Vesak Day.
I don't know of your taste. Those of us who have gone to Red Star for dim sum agree that the place is nostalgic and the dim sum is served from the push carts. We find the quality of dim sum not very good and prices are not cheap.
Other than the nostalgic ambience I think the dim sum's standard is not acceptable. That was my first and last time there.
If you want nice dim sum in a nostalgic place, go Swee Choon. it has been existing for about 60 or 40 years in Singapore. They are not open in the afternoon.
We give a thumbs down for Red Star.
Where is Seng Choon restaurant ? How much does each plate of dim sum cost ?
So, Seng Choon restaurant only opens in the morning and evening ?
It is not Seng Choon, SEng Choon is the egg supplier, egg farm. Swee Choon is located along Jalan Besar . Open from 6 pm to next morning 10 am.
The century egg porridge , steamed honey chicken very nice. Prices are normal . The up to date any raise I don't know I have not been there for a long time.
IF you want air con without any expectation of the place to be nostalgic, try Crystal Jade.
try tian hao yun

swatow is not bad though not fantastic
not exactly dim sum as in HK dim sum
more like assorted "side dishes"
and they dont have a fixed menu
and it is butler style so u gotta wait for the guy/girl to come around to ur table to ask u how many pieces/portion u want
used to go when it was $13.90++ per person
now i think is $19.90++ per person so like not worth it oredi
swatow is more for teochew style food
