The opposition must learn from the PAP, and do exactly what the PAP does. Tried and tested.
Points to take:
-Everything will rise due to inflation if we vote for PAP
-GST will be raise if we vote for PAP
- Tariff is expect to raise, COE raise, We will have more burden - Please note
WE need to deny at least 1/3 of PAP government in order for this wun happen.

Haha.. an interview before they are determined whether to stand in for the next.. or out....
Then we will have less than 3 months to the GE.
Probably due to the passing away of Mrs Lee, and to use this tool to wool the votes towards PAP...imho.

If they do not announce the boundary report by end of Nov, then it will be in 2011.
Singapore’s opposition parties are increasing the frequency of house visits ahead of the coming general election, now speculated to be held at the end of the year.
The Reform Party conducted a walkabout at Clementi yesterday night while the Singapore Democratic Party has been making regular visits to Bukit Panjang and Bishan Toa-Payoh.
Despite the effort and time put in by the party activists, their grassroots activities are seldom reported in the mainstream media, thereby giving the public an erroneous perception that they have been “inactive” and making a “cameo appearance” only once in five years.
Due to limited manpower and resources, the opposition is unlikely to counter the well-oiled grassroots machinery of the ruling party effectively.

They need to do this more often even after the GE, they still need to create bonds with the pple. If this GE failed, work the the next GE. Bonds very important. Pple will know you for life and will willing to vote for you. Brush up on bonding with the pple first.

From my inside info, Denise is another ahem ahem. Hiyah no one will contest jalan besar one lar. That's one stronghold that pap can't even really be bothered with. Just one brief glance of the population make up of that GRC and you know who the winner is even if there is a contest.

Jalan Besar GRC, there is Whampoa, Chinatown, Kampong Glam, Bukit Ho Swee etc. Lots of old folks, who are too scared to vote the other party.

I dun think they are scared to vote for the other party....
Actually PAP did help lots of elderly in the past..... in terms of accomodation and raised their standards of living.... so older and mature estate residents actually loved PAP a lot.....

But that's in the past, they need to see the present situation.
To vote based on what's happened in the last 5 years, not the last 50 years.

Past is the past, now these old folks still gotta work into their 70s due to their CPF been withheld in full, only can receive few hundreds per month only, but the cost of living still keep on rising. they also got their own childrens being marginalised by FTs in career fields, grandchildrens fighting for academic places in NTU/NUS with FT kids.
Unless you tell me these old folks dun care for their childrens and grandchildren's future?
Or else i believe the votes of these old folks might swing towards the opposition this time round.

Most living in those areas he mentioned have long passed their retirement age.... mostly in their late 60s, 70s to 80s... collected every single cent of their CPF and enjoying their life....

Yeah... I agree with you on this. We should based things based on what happened in the last 5 years, not the past 50 years....
But you must understand elderly mentality -
They have this saying that goes --> Zuo Ren Bu Ke Yi Wang En Fu Yi

i must say these people are lucky to get their CPF back in full before the CPF policy changes years ago.
But unfortunately for their juniors and later generations, they are not that lucky.

Yup... thats why we must go deeper in our thinking at times....
Your generation not happy doesnt mean everyone is unhappy.
Those generations have benefitted under PAP rule.... and apart from that getting topups everytime the govt announces budget.... whats there to be unhappy about the present govt?
Those unhappy are probably those in their mids 20s to 60.

i can understand if it's coming from the mouth of a old bachelor or old spinster.
But for those with adult childrens and grandchildrens, can they afford to be heartless towards them based on the chinese phrase u mentioned? can they afford to throw away their future generation's lifeline?
They have lived a full, well meaning life good for them, but as parents and grandparents, surely and truly right in their hearts they would want the best for their children and grandchildrens isn't it?

Their children are probably in their 40s and 50s... the time where children are extremely filial... and would not confide with their parents over money woes...
They seldom complain in front of their parents...so their parents wun really know... and are getting the same allowances every month from their children..... unless those who lost their jobs... and are really in great financial difficulties...

Sure or not? That is a huge number of population, more than half of the electorate.
If most of them vote for opposition, the result will be interesting.

yeah plus those old folks have only MSM as their source of info and entertainment, makes it worse, but they will eventually know en masse when their children being replaced by FTs for years to come if PAP is unchecked should they win 2/3 majority this time round, and i afraid it'd be too late by then.
