ABINGDON, England, Feb. 25, 2013/PRNewswire/ --
P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology, announces it has commenced legal proceedings against Europlasma NV, a Belgian manufacturer of plasma equipment, for patent infringement. P2i filed the lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
P2i's liquid repellent nano-coating technology is protected by a global portfolio of 65 patent families. Working with leading brands and manufacturers, P2i has applied the technology to tens of millions of electronic devices worldwide.
Carl Francis, P2i's Chief Executive Officer, said: "Since P2i launched its splash-proof technology on smartphones and tablets in October 2011, the demand for invisible protection against liquids, humidity and corrosion has skyrocketed. Following the success of P2i, and the uniqueness of our nano-coating technique, a number of companies have emerged with solutions that have shown to be of lesser performance and technical effect than our own. P2i alleges that Europlasma NV has copied aspects of P2i's protected intellectual property."
Mr. Francis continued, "We are very proud and passionate about our technology, and are committed to defending the intellectual property of our company. If necessary we will proceed with further related lawsuits."
P2i's platform technology originated from the UK Ministry of Defence through research by Dr. Stephen Coulson, who founded P2i and today is the company's Chief Technical Officer.
Dr. Coulson commented: "In the past decade, P2i has invested well over 75 million dollars into the research and development of our liquid repellent technology. As the market leader in functional nano-coatings, we intend to protect our intellectual property to the maximum extent against opportunistic companies offering unproven versions of our patented technology."
Europlasma NV has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
