In a statement, PUB said that throughout the 50-year tenure of the 1961 Water Agreement, the working relationship between the Johor water authorities and PUB has been good and cordial.
A signing ceremony
will be held at the Gunong Pulai Waterworks on Wednesday, where PUB will
officially hand over the assets to the Johor state govenment.
The handing/taking over document will be signed by the Chairman of the PUB and the Johor State Secretary.
The
event will be graced by Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar,
the Sultan of Johor; Singapore's Minister for Environment and Water
Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan; and the Chief Minister of Johor, YAB
Dato' Haji Abdul Ghani bin Othman. Officials from Singapore and Malaysia

End of an era of ppl in JB drinking PUB water
We have our own water to rely on.
No more threats from them anymore.
They gonna drink water by themselves, we wont sell any treated water back to them.
Good luck friends!
PUB is left maintaining the waterworks at Kota Tinggi
Oh wait, the one PUB is maintaining at Kota Tinggi will still pump water to Pontian
Waterworks handover will not affect S'pore's water supply: Dr Balakrishnan
SINGAPORE: The return to Johor of four waterworks would not affect Singapore's water supply, said Minister of the Environment and Water Resources, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
Speaking after a handover ceremony at Gunong Pulai of the waterworks Wednesday morning witnessed by the Sultan of Johor Ibrahim Iskandar, Dr Balakrishnan said the handover on good terms was symbolic of deepening ties between Singapore and Malaysia.
Gunong Pulai is one of four waterworks under the 1961 water agreement which expires Wednesday.
The
four waterworks produced about 15 million gallons of water per day,
equivalent to 30 swimming pools, or five per cent of Singapore's total
water supply.
Dr Balakrishnan said water supply will not be
affected as Singapore is on track to achieving water self-sufficiency by
2061, when the second and final water agreement with Johor expires.
He
said through the years, Singapore has been building up local sources of
water by developing new reservoirs and improving NEWater and
desalination technology.
The PUB, which has managed the plants
for 50 years, said it has trained 60 workers since January to take over
operations after the handover.

CNA report wrongly
There's only 2 waterworks in Pulai & Skudai.
The Pontian & Terbau are pumping station. Former being source, latter for pumping water to Singapore

They're forced to buy treated water from us for now thru the 2nd water agreement
we wont be selling them at the price they used to sell us right?

no
the second water agreement still stands at 3 sen per 1000 gallon for raw water and 50 sen per 1000 gallon for treated water
That's why they still find it worthwhile to purchase it from PUB
The force is because they're still lacking of water from their sources.
But 1 thing, can't help it is how they use water.
Be glad tat our gabrament taught us how to use water wisely the painful water, water tax from the very beginning.
The Chinese news article that highlights that JB is still dependent on PUB's supply least till 2012
Malaysia is in for a water shortage of their own soon. Leakage, waste, theft and so on, and watershed in Selangor is drying up.
It's important to be self-sufficient but buying water is always cheaper than making it ourselves. Unless that prick V spoils relations with them.

Hi sbst275,
Dr M mentioned in his book that Malaysia subsidized water treatment cost for Singapore. But ST forum had a guy contributed some figures about Sg' subsidizing water treatment cost for Malaysia.
Which is true ?
Does the water from Pontian being pump to Sg for treatment ?
Thanks
We dun buy treated water from them, it's rather they buying treated water from us.
We're selling treated water to them at 50 sen per 1000 gallon, their own ppl figured it cost RM2.40 to do it themselves today.
The water from Pontian are sent to both Singapore & ppl in Pontian, Skudai, JB.
Dr M mentioned in his book that the water treatment cost PROBABLY at RM1.??. I do not remember the exact figure.
The water we bought from Johore was treated in Johore previously ? Therefore PUB have to train their people to take over the plant.
Where is the treatment plant nowaday since My is buying treated water from Sg ?

That was what he thought.. Ppl later calculated and figured it's not worth it.
Anyway this was talked because the new water treatment plant they built at Kota Tinggi cost a lot, so they thought they could use it to sell us treated water (making it a premium) and no need to buy water from us anymore.
But their demand grew too fast. I believe JB is still short of water.
No, the pump and waterworks are at Johor.
Now there's only 1 plant left at Kota Tinggi
Is there any case that water pump to Sg, treat and return to My ?
Also, months back, ST had a news with a picture that showed Kota Tinggi water fall dried up ! Children playing on the river bed !
Heard about water supply being cut off in JB, KL and so forth every now and then. Why JB could be short of water ?
I understand few reservoirs were contaminated (toxin) and have to shut down for good.
There used to be a saying abt e 3 water pipes, 2 into SG, 1 to MY...
Dunno how true la

Take a look at how they use water seriously.
