hmmz... i'm a girl.. waiting for my a's results... and now in great dilemma in whether to choose btw erm... well, guess this is kinda cliche.. but a choice btw NTU and NUS.. hmmz.. tho it's kinda ridiculous to come in here and expect u guys to answer to this kinda ridiculous ques of mine.... but i feel if there's any chance tat anione will reply, i won't gif up... esp when the choice will decide mi fate for the next three yrs there...
i knoe it's more of how my results are and my interest.. to b honest, i'm seriously dying to go into mass comm ( which is only offered in NTU )... not for the status of it but for interest sake... but wif my gp results, guess it's almost zilch chance i can make it there... apart from tat course, i'm reallie not sure of where to go, let alone the courses...
if there's any kind soul out there tat can tell mi how u feel about your school and possibly any recommendation, it'll b greatly appreciated.. thanx~!!! -
i guess it really depends on your choice of course. you probably wun be happy to be doing a course that you dun like, knowing that you should have done something else.
only thing too is that ntu is so far away, kind of a turn-off too.
what are your other choices for your course besides mass comm ? you be interested in arts subjects like psychology ? -

aniwae, yah.. i do knoe choosing courses depends a lot on my interest, inclination and strengths.. but juz hoping to knoe more about the school environment and the people there before goin into one lohz~~~
apart from mass comm, oso quite intereested in psychology.. but knoe it's very hard to get in one... honestly speaking, i'm reallie unsure of wat to take on... all along, have been planning on see how my gardes are then decide which course i CAN go into then choose... heez~~~ -
was like u last time...
wanted to go NTU do mass comm..
however..
my interest is in languages...
speaking and writing...
but at the same time..wanting to do something related to media..
(cos my dream is to be news broadcaster)
so instead of doin mass comm in NTU (which most ppl think is the easier path to media-related industries..) i came NUS and did double languages and a subject known as Information and Communications Management..which is somewhat similar to mass comm except tt there is some infotech components to it...
in NUS, u can oso take other 'subjects' of ur interest (in this case, u mentioned psychology)..u can take up psychology modules as electives (outside ur main subjects)
cross-faculty modules are oso available (and compulsory)..which means u can take modules from other faculties besides ur own fac..
i can oni speak as a student from Arts as i do not know the other faculties very well..
a bachelor of arts degree is rather "general" loh..depending on the subjects u major in...
1st year students must choose 3 subjects...(and electives/cross-fac modules) as u deem u can cope...
2nd year then decide whether to do a double concentration (major in 2 subjects) or single-concentration (major in 1 subject--this one greatly depends on year-1 results)
u shd consider where u true interest lies b4 u make a decision...
well...my decision from NTU Mass Comm to NUS Arts n Social Science was kinda last min..(all along i wanted to go NTU but then after taken As results..went to check out the courses in both institutions liao then change of mind to NUS Arts...)

thanx for the reply.. means a lot to me.. reallie hocked to see someone of the same interest as me... yah.. mi sort of pinning all hopes of goin into NTU mass comm... but somehow i got a feelin i'll end up in something diff in NUS... who knoes, i juz might enter the course u r in.. then u'll b mi senior... kekeek....
in the meantime, guess i'll check out more courses ( did that since long ago )...
hmmz.. apart from the courses.... can tell me more about the campus and the ppls there? thanz~~~ ^_^ -
campus .. people ? ermm.. no matter what, my end of campus is dead boring ... probably the other end of campus is just as bad. im NOT in science, but think the majority of science pple are pretty nerdy, and med and den pple are dao and nerdy, lots of roc pple too. maybe icyfire will give you a better idea of the other end of campus.

building kinda lok-kok..but still sturdy..
(no need worrie the roof come crashing down during lecture tt is...)
the most dreaded thing is..
lotsa flights of stairs...(which leads to the phenomenon tt Arts za-bors have rather "good figures" from all tt exercising...)
canteen food is touted to be the best of all facs in NUS...(yeah..can always see so many ppl from other facs come here to eat...AND beo za-bors at the same time...)
ppl are generally bery friendly...
but beware of "some ppl" lurking in the canteen....doin their "extra-curricular activities"...(mebe our dearest hoho can further elaborate on that)
lecturers are oso bery nice ppl...but boring (as usual)...ehh...depends on ur luck see u kena who loh...but dun worrie...oni get to see them once or twice a week...
timetable in arts lagi shack..at least for me lah...3-day week oni :p (but this depends on the subjects u take loh)
homework-wise...tutorials...assignmts (essays) and term paper...be good and do them and hand in on time shd be no prob...will be counted into the final grade...
and not to mention..
once in a while..there will be bashes..where u can see nerds and nerdettes get all drunk n wild..(the side tt u dun see them in sch)
hmm...
tts basically all lah..
unless u want me to specifically elaborate on a certain point.

alo, just need to take a test which will determine whether you will be offered Psychology as a subject concentration. the test is quite easy.

hmmz.. is it just me but u guys seems to make the life sound so ... erm... un-interesting there... wonder if that's reallie the case.. even if so, is it onli applicable to the faculty or is it a common phenomenon... and if u guys knoe life ain't tat happenning there, why chose it in the very first place.. of coz go uni is for studying.. but did u guys oso check out the environment b4 joining? or u guys dun mind?

as for the rival uni, well, not really their fault, i guess, that they`re so far away from everything. people from there just seem so homely. really. i`m sure people who are permanently confined to their halls will find their own entertainment. there`re still a number of happening people there tho. i know this really handsome guy from hall 6 who cheongs zouk every friday. unfortunately he`s attached .. still ..
maybe get FireIcecube to show you around nus, maybe you get a better idea, yeah? -

Well... In arts fac....I think whether you get your 1st choice subject combi depends alot on your GP results as well. Especially if you wanna take subjects that can get you jobs related to the Mass Comm. field next time..like English, Lit, Sociology....etc etc...they usually require you to have at least a B3 and above. -

and oso...there are a lotta academic-related stuff to do online..(e.g download lecture notes, research, essays..) so might as well "shun bian" come here to destress and bit and tok cock loh...

GP is INDEED VERY IMPT for entry to university and oso the subjects that they allow u to take...
B3 shd be the safe range...
but then if ur GP is in the 'C' range...then muz pray that u get superb straight As (and/ or Bs) in ur A level results to get the combi u desire...
as "advertised" by dreamlord...i m more than glad to give a little tour ard the sch if u think u seriously requires one...but then oni can bring u to arts lah..

Didn't expect to meet you in here... you're from Biz? Me from Science, the other end of campus...

Yeah...my faculty is one of the most boring ones... Not sure abt Archi/building/real estate, but I think my faculty wins "most boring faculty" hands down... most unhappening bazzar, etc...
Yet again, like what others have mentioned, university life is entirely dependant on how you make it... Like me, I always travel between science and biz... 2 ends of the U-shaped... (but that is 'cos of my ECA). Anyway, if uni life is boring, that leaves you with lotsa time to develop an active social life, which is the next ultimate besides getting a degree.
After all the bad things I've said about Science, Science isn't exactly that bad... There's lotsa pple around, lotsa lecture halls, lotsa buildings, but pple just dun care who or how you are, 'cos we dun care about 'being seen' and 'seeing'. Science is not like Orchard Rd (aka. Arts & Biz), most people just wear sandles, bermudas and T-shirt to school... you dun need to put on tonnes of makeup, and nobody cares if you're with the latest trends... food isn't the most important thing to us... canteen is for studying, not eating... Yeah...not to mention that science grads get a starting salary that is higher than arts grad... We have the latest Lecture halls, thanks to SOC (School of Computing)...

aniwae, yah.. i do knoe the importance of GP in those fields.. and i reallie hope i can well.. trust me, if miracles happen and i get at least B3... i'll definitely enrol for those mass comm or comm studies thingies... but then again, miracles usually dun occur in my case so tink i'll juz take a step at a time.. see how my results are and stuffs.. oh yah, how long are we given to decide after we get our results huhz?
as for the tour around the campus.. i would love that.. but thenz now mi working.. by the time i go there is about 6 oredi where erm.. most ppls would b gone laioz right? and i wouldn't wanna trouble u all lohz, tho i dun mind like takin a day off or sth like tat... but i reallie appreciate u guys so nice, offering the touring,,, *me eyes brimming with tears*
hmmz... i tink mi is the type that'll b superbly active in ECA stuffs.. coz during college, supposed to mainly studies but i have taken up 3 eca lohz.. then cum uni when is supposed to go for eca.. reallie wondering how many i'll take up... kekekek.. no limitation to this right?
as for attire and food, dun tink there's the main priority of mine.. firstly, i have my own dress sense and dun reallie care what others wear around me... then as for the food, mi quite sui bian one lohz.. so tat's not a problem there~~ -

shervon - me not from biz. i`m right near you .. med fac .. actually posted to nuh now. and ABRE may be pretty boring, but the girls still pretty much doll up with nice clothes and makeup .. i mean, 2/3 of the fac is female, and they need to heow with other girls around.
anywae i`m sure you got beautiful enough skin dat you dun need to waste time putting make-up or dressing up too nice. heh heh ..
talking about hanging out, try gloria jeans coffee at that place opposite fullerton. pretty breezy. couple of nice eating places there too.

touring campus .. if you really want .. i show you src .. this is field, this is basketball court, this is netball court, this is tennis court this is swimming pool. dats all. end of tour. tips please.
and make sure fireice also show you the admin block .. bloody place so far away from anything .. when you register, need to go there for so many funny reasons.
and eca har? keep eca on the lowest priority hor. unless you really going all out for your resume, eca not really worth your time. i tihnk you have a while after your results to submit to nus .. few weeks only. nus shd be sending you a package with everything inside, expecting you to read ..
fireice - lucky my side also got pretty okay food. i dun mean sci canteen. you got time come nuh kr wing .. food a bit ex, but pretty good. -
