NUS Health Service Sucks !!!

Me Sick...
I had a bad sore throat on Thursday... trust me... it's really bad. The sore throat caused my earache and throbbing headache. I couldn't even finish the slice of bread for breakfast... I just ate 2 bites, took me 10++min to finish chewing them... In the end, fed up, threw it away (without my mother knowing)...
Well, I went sometime last week to YIH also to see the same doctor about my bad cough... initially, the cough was better after taking the medicine prescribed... oh well, it cost me only $2 for cough mixture and flu tablets, and since the medicine is quite effective (and I dun need to take antiobiotics), so I went to YIH about my sore throat too...
Yeah...to cut the long story short, the doctor said that my throat is alright (heh...I told her the soreness is along the neck and led up to skull and ear...of cos she can't see lah...) and gave me lozenges and panadol...
Now, I'm still coughing, throat still hurting everytime i swallow saliva... pain in the head throbbing every few times a minute...
sighz... i think i will go back to health service next time... they dun give antibiotics
(I hate antibiotics...)

antibiotics quite useless in sore throat, usually. might as well go for the serious cough mixtures, the one with codeine phosphate.
anyhow, i`m sure you`ll be fine within a few days .. sleep early, drink lots of water .. diet a little, lose a few kilos .. you`ll be looking like kate moss coming out of your sore throat. -

Coming from a med student, I'm inclined to believe what you say... But dunno codeine phospate found in what type of mixture... black or red ones? I was taking the red one, but now finish it already...
future doctor, I already quite skinny already leh... my lower arm is like quite bonny already... diet also won't remove the unwanted weight in the wrong area... But then, I think I will lose weight... got appetite but take so long to eat, cough so badly until I must steady myself (else will fall down)... okay... i will drink more water... -
there`s quite a lot of cough syrup mixtures out there with codeine phosphate, like phensedyl etc .. problem is that they have potential to be abused by drug addicts, who can drink them by the gallon. usually is brownish color.
and you should eat more, also can exercise more .. lose weight in other areas .. start by walking in campus end to end instead of taking bus. save twenty cents and get exercise. just dun die halfway and kena sent to a&e hor.
get worse, just icq me, see if i can help, but i think you shd be fine in a couple of days. meanwhile, i`ll stay away from sci, hear someone coughing will run in the other direction. heh heh just kidding. hope you get better. -

but watdehell..
i dun see doctor when i m sick..unless relli relli sick until cannot tahan..
but by tt time no need see doc liao...can directly go hospital..

only reason to see a doctor these days is really to get mc, and go sleep at home. i mean.. people got cough, cold, fever also can go shopping, go cheong.
anyhow, your LT too cold better dress up a bit more. black leather trenchcoat plus a black wool overcoat. plus a few scarves. think dat should be enuff to give dem the hint. -

not every dead person gets to see the morgue doctor. they only see those have died under "un-natural circumstances" .. and they gonna cut you open and take out everything, scalp you, saw open your skull and rip out your brain .. not really the kind of doctor i`d like to see ..Originally posted by FireIce:dreamlord:

anyhows, i`d probably sleep through most of the lectures i attend .. that way, i feel the cold less .. you could try dat, just dun look for me if you fail anything. or maybe you could try bringing in a hot water bottle into lecture .. add to that a blanket, pillow and bolster and you`d be real comfortable. heh .
shervon, hope you`re better though, so you can go out and enjoy yourself tomorrow .. -

Saw both the Tans... Tan Ee Ling gave me lozenges... the other Tan finally gave me antibiotics...
I also dun like to see doctors until I'm very sick... yeah...unless to get MCs. I usually self-medicate (for headaches) and drink a lot of fruit juices and water when I think I'm falling sick...
By the way, I noticed a few spots of blood in the phelgm I coughed out... any cause for alarm?

i also have this experience b4-having blood in phlegm, went to NUH for x-ray. -
unlikely to be cause for alarm, but should investigate nevertheless. is it more likely that the blood is from your lungs or is it from your throat ( trachea, pharynx, larynx, back of your throat etc? ) and phlegm is what colour how thick ?Originally posted by Shervon99:Yeah...me better already...

got any problems breathing, feeling out of breath, etc? x ray is unlikely to show anything unless your condition is very severe, in which case you should be showing some symptoms, etc. severe breathlessness, bad cough, thick phlegm, probably yellow or green, etc. hope you`re fine though .. got worries better get health service to refer you to nuh or something.
and stop smoking. -

to keep myself (and others) awake..try munching loudly on those crackers u get from the snacks vending machines all over arts fac..or slurp ur morning coffee so loud that the neighbouring lecture hall can hear u...
can oso try to SMS some frens and purposely set the message alert to loud loud beeps...nokia-users can fully utilise the GAMES function in their fones..
(hahah...letz see who can score highest for snake...)
got once i saw this guy..lagi better..set up his laptop rite there and start to play Solitaire and other farnie games such as a shark chasing a small fish in the sea and pinball...oh yah..rber to on the volume to let ppl "hear" of ur accomplishments on surpassing the high score...
lectures are not so boring after all..

if nus has wireless internet access like ntu claims to have, i can just imagine people taking their laptops into lecture .. play a round of counter-strike .. get shot .. listen to lecture until the next round starts ..
anyhows .. what`s the best lecture snack ? i know one of my good fren, on two separate occasions, brought in a bowl of mee pok and a bowl of ice kachang to eat in lecture .. both times he came in front entrance .. walked in front of lecturer and up the centre aisle to sit somewhere in the centre .. of course making the effort to "shield" the food from the lecturer .. but i think the lecturer not so blind right ? anyhows both times the lecturer never say anything .. maybe too shocked. rest of us hungry people were just staring at his food, waiting for lecture to end so we can go eat ..
erm yeah .. another famous story in my fac .. this guy comes in for exam totally drunk .. having taken a full bottle of tequila and twelve cans of beer .. smell of alcohol was strong enough people from two of three metres away can smell it very clearly .. in the LT, trips and falls down two rows of seats .. takes the test and comes out with a C .. and he got failed for suspected drug abuse .. its true ..
not saying you should go to lectures drunk tho .. getting tired .. long day tomorrow .. going off liaoz .. -

seems like university grads dont sound so "prestigious" afterall....

oh yeah, and forgot an effective treatment for sore throat .. gargle some very saturated salt water .. mix in about 2 tablespoons of salt with one glass of water .. gargle, do not swallow .. try and see how.
