Seeing the facade disgusts me enough... So what if they have world-class designer to design it? I bet the designers will be too ashamed to add UCC to their portfolio...
nah..... they'll put anything on their portfolio
anyway the situation is quite sad, not that singapore doesn't have any talented architects, just that we get treated as inferior counterparts to well known foreign ones, n being singaporeans most of us submit to the system soon enuff..
there's simply no premium for good local design, cos when ppl go to local firms wif a fixed mindset, whereas when the situation calls for good design guestures they'll go for established foreign names.
highly demoralizing....
its a vicious circle, hard to break out from it, but still have to try, cos its the only way to go.
Well, a few friends of mine were commenting on how it was funny that both the UCC and S17 (soon to be renamed COM1) were nice to look at from inside NUS, but had nothing worth seeing when you pass by the U on AYE...
Is NUS becoming more and more inward-looking?
