Honk! The Musical, is a hilarious adaptation of Han’s Christian Anderson’s famed tale, The Ugly Duckling. The musical will see the directorial debut of Sebastian Tan, best known for his roles in the musical comedies Broadway Beng! and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. At the launch of the Arts Festival last Friday at SMU concourse, an excerpt of HONK! was presented to rave reviews. The student talents show that they can be as good as the professionals! The cast of 15 SMU students will be supported by veteran actress Margaret Chan (now SMU faculty) in a cameo role.
Acclaimed musical director Elaine Chan (of Chang and Eng, Dim Sum Dollies fame) will conduct a 10-piece SMU student band for the musical. Some 25 other SMU undergraduates are also involved in the production, administration and marketing. - 13 Jan 2009
