Obstacle-ridden staircase at Hougang Block a fire hazard

STOMPer LT was shocked to encounter all these obstacles on the staircase at Block 158B Rivervale Crescent and wonders what residents would do in an event of a fire.
In an email to STOMP today (Aug 14), the STOMPer wrote:
“I have never used the stairs of my HDB block.
“Today, I decided to go jogging in the morning as I am on leave.
“I decided to use the stairs since my motive is to exercise. As I went down floor by floor, I felt like I was going through an obstacle course.
“There was a hurdle to cross almost every alternate level.
“As this is the fire exit of the block, I am very concerned about the safety of everyone.
“I recalled how the siblings of Hougang were burnt to death when a fire broke out in their block of flat and the thought gives me goose bumps.
“Do we always have to wait for something to happen before actions are taken?”The house must have been a warehouse.
