STOMPer asks: Are Japanese treating our national icon with disrespect in this video?STOMPer HearTheLionRoars came across this Japanese advertisement depicting the Merlion and feels that it was done in bad taste.
The STOMPer says:
“I saw this video clip when one of my friends forwarded it to me.
“I might be a bit too sensitive, or lack humour, but as a Singaporean, I think it is done in very bad taste.
“Take a look at it, STOMPers.
“Frankly speaking, I'm sad to admit that I did find it quite amusing when I watched it for the first time, but after a few more times, I think it’s lousy.
“Our Merlion is not something that u can just treat with no due respect.
“No one can just call our Merlion to come and go as they wish!
“It is a country's icon, and in this case, it is our very own Merlion.
“I am sure there are better ways of promoting our country.
“What do you fellow STOMPers think of this?
“Anyway, I’m looking forward to NDP2009!”

come on.. open up your mind alittle... dont be a spoilsport... singapore society is too uptight about many things... just relax on certain issues...
I dont see singapore PM and President coming out to meet the citizens, playing basketball with the citizens or soldiers (Obama did play bball with his soldiers and scored a 3 pointer with his first throw)
I just feel that singapore is still a long way to go in emulating the more open minded countries. Singaporeans (those older generations) are very uptight about many things, this cannot that cannot, eat on mrt cannot, sleep cannot, never give up seats cannot, blah blah blah, use tissues chop seats, use umbrella chope seats, seats hogging etc etc etc.
This cannot that cannot, like that sure cannot.

Free promotion for singapore. We take insult but many people will come to singapore. WOnder is it expensive to come singapore by Aeroplane from other countries.
I suggest the government would sudsidise the airfare from Other Countries that are coming to singapore. When they reach and buy anything. Please raise the GST to 1000%. hahah. let them faint. Come singapore 1 dollars. 1 Lu yA egg in genting - RM 1.70. IN SINGAPORE will cost every tourist SGD 1000 per egg.

agree. i find the video funny. singaporean shldn't be so narrow minded.especially stompers would like to kpkb over the samllest thing in the world.
