A minor accident at the Second Link turns ugly when one party starts hurling racist insults and threatening the other. At one point one of the drivers is nearly manhandled out of his car.
Here's what the STOMPer wrote in an email today (July 1):
"This Incident happened on Sunday, June 21, at around 9.00 pm.
“You know how traffic at the Second Link can get disastrous when it gets all jammed up, right?
"I followed my long lane, and somehow got caught in between two lanes near the immigration checkpoint.
"The cars ahead of me manage to squeeze in either to their left or right. So when it was my turn, I signalled to the left and waited for a kind soul to let me enter the lane.
"A Singapore-registered Opel Zafira MPV came up behind me, and I had some space to enter.
"With the assumption that he was giving way to me, I entered the lane and waved to thank the driver.
"Next thing I know, he surged forward, hitting my left wing mirror and scratching my front left fender.
"I got down my car to evaluate the damage, but what happened next caught me off-guard – he wound down his window and started cursing at me.
"The driver’s wife also got down, throwing racist slurs and taunting me, at the same time taking photos of both damaged cars and a photo of me.
"Well I was with my mum, and seeing how this whole situation could be blown out of proportion (the wife threatened me and even tried to pull me out of my car when I got back in to get a pen and paper), I quickly drove off as I did not want anything violent to happen. Plus, the incident was blocking traffic behind us.
"Now if they were more mature instead of turning barbaric (even though the couple looked like highly-educated people) towards me, I’m sure we could have resolved the matter peacably.
"I won’t deny it was partially my fault for misjudging his intentions, and would fork out half the repair cost for his car, but instead, we didn’t even get to exchange particulars. It just turned ugly, and we both returned back to Singapore with damaged cars.
"I wonder what their kids (who were in the car the whole time) would think, seeing how their parents handled this situation."

My viewpoint: It's all a misunderstanding. Since STOMPer is willing to pay for the damage after the small accident, I dunno why the other driver must be so worked up and not settle the issue amicably, unless stomper is giving a one-sided story.
