  Ajahn Siripanno, the ...only son of Malaysia’s second richest man who is Ananda Krishan, who is second generation Sri Lankan Tamil. His mother is Thai. The then youngster refused opportunity to work with his father to expand his father’s empire (personal fortune more than USD 8 billion) and instead walked the path of the Thai forest meditation tradition about 13 years ago. His ancestral home, which is preserved till today in Jalan Berhala as a family heritage, is just accross the road from the Buddhist Maha Vihara Brickfields, besides the Klang river bank.   Cool, i think he has found peace and happiness in his life. Something not easily obtained by any means. So there is nothing wrong he doesn't want to trade that kind of peace and happiness for anything else.

  some wealthy people, like him, has followed in the footsteps of Prince Siddartha towards renunciation and enlightenment...but equally, there are some who failed to renounce....ascetic life is not as easy as one thinks...it is paved with temptations and surrounded by all kinds of human frailties...even among monks... it is a brave move, as well as a great spiritual calling....

  He must have "seen through" (看é€�) that money, big houses, big cars etc. are impermanence. He is after eternal happiness.

  Yeah, accumulating merit in Pureland also cannot compare to accumulating merit on Earth. I read somewhere that 1 day practice of observance 8 precepts on earth is equivalent to 100 years practice in Pureland. Reason being it is more difficult to practice here than in Pureland, thus more merits. If a person practices 1 day observance 8 precepts on earth, he/she will not go hungry in his/her many next lives if he/she could not liberate from samsara and unfortunately reborn in samsara again.

  八关斋戒的功德

   

  ��八关斋戒，功德是很大的。

   

  1)      脱离病苦　
   
  《�师�》上说如果�想解除疾病痛苦，就应该��八关斋戒，��八关斋戒疾病必然���少。
   

  2)      消ç�­ç½ªéšœ
  　　
  我们�想�悔，必然���八关斋戒。《优婆塞戒�》上说得很清楚，能够��八斋戒，除了犯有五逆罪以外，其它的罪障都�以消除。
   

  3)      å…�除横祸　
   
  我们�想求得平安，�除��飞�横祸，必须��八关斋戒。《四天王�》上说：有人��八关斋戒，这个地方�鬼远离，这个地方必定平安。所以我们��在六斋日里头精进地�斋守戒，那必然�慧增长，�难远离。
   

  4)      远离æ�¶é�“　
  　
  如果我们害怕今生死�堕三��，那么，我们就应该认真��八关斋戒。《�善业�》上说得很清楚，能��八关斋戒的人第一�堕地狱，第二�堕饿鬼，第三�堕畜牲，第四�堕阿修罗。阿修罗是�善��，也�以划归��。
   

  5)      ç¦�报优厚　
  　
  如果有人担心今�世�乱了，会�到饥饿的痛苦，那么应当��八关斋戒。《佛说护戒�》上说：一个人能够认真地��八关斋戒，他�以得到六�万世������穿的果报。
  
  

  6)      æˆ�就迅速　
  　
  如果年纪大了，身体多病，�怕�久于人世了。或者关在监狱里头，性命�夕��的人，�想在很短的时间就获得很殊胜的果报，必须��八关斋戒。因为��八关斋戒的方法��求你一日一夜，时间短，功德大。佛�上举了个例，有一�优陀羡王的夫人，病已垂�，临终�一天�求�八关斋戒，死�就生到天上。
   

  7)      æ�¥ä¸–尊贵　
  　
  如果�想求得�世投生到尊贵人家去，那必须��八关斋戒。《佛说普达王�》上举了这样一个例：有个国王的�从，他曾�跟�国王��八关斋戒，这个人死了过�，下世就转身为王�。
   

  8)      得生天上　
  　
  �想求生到天上去享�报，也���八关斋戒。佛�上举了一个例，有一�天女，她的相貌�常庄严，人家问她为什么得到这么好的果报，她说就是因为��八关斋戒。
   

  9)      往生助缘　
   
  �想求生净土的人，必须��八关斋戒。佛�上说如果有人��八关斋戒，就凭这�功德拿�回�求生净土，能够得到中�中生。
   

  10)    临终欢ä¹�　
   
  如果我们虽然在念佛，但我们的功夫没有达到一心�乱，耽心临终时没有把�往生，也应该��八关斋戒。《�师�》上说��八关斋戒的人就凭这个善因，到了临命终时，就会有八�大��接引他往生净土。
   

  11)    得相好身　
   
  《长爪梵志请问�》上说：有一�婆罗门问佛陀，您作什么功德�得这么好的相？佛说��八关斋戒，就会得这�果报。
  
  

  12)    æˆ�ä½›é�“缘　
  　
  《阿��》上说：��八关斋戒，�以促使我们获�尽通，入于涅槃城。那就是�佛了。所以，我们��八关斋戒，�以说是�佛�的��胜因。
  
  

  上�这�二�就是��八关斋戒的功德利益，这都是佛�上的开示。所以我们了解了这些，�以增进信心，这个八关斋戒，时间短，功德利益�常之大，我们应当认真��。
