SingPost to stop collecting & delivering mail on Saturdays

SINGAPORE: The postman will stop collecting and delivering mail on Saturdays from the middle of this year.
From May 15, SingPost will scale back collection and delivery due to
falling mail volumes from changes in lifestyle and mailing habits.
It will collect and deliver from Mondays to Fridays, and will extend collection by an hour on Fridays.
SingPost said the public mail volume has declined by 22 per cent between 2002 and 2009.
It attributed the decline over the years to the emergence of new
communication tools such as email, SMS and other technological
platforms.
On average, a person posts only six letters or cards per year. In
addition, many companies and organisations are now operating on a
five-day week, resulting in less mail on Saturdays.
Mr Ng Hin Lee, deputy group chief executive officer of SingPost
said: "Implementing this initiative will help us to optimise resources
to stay competitive while upholding the high level of service. We will
extend the posting hours on Fridays as an added convenience to
customers."

What rubbish! IN that case, might as well just terminate the postal service since there is decline.

Post office is like a dump, so many things and the staff asked me to buy tv when I 'm sending a letter! Can't relate.

Next in line will be to close the post office on sat due to less demand.
Then no cleaners on sat and sun so that they can do a combined sweep on monday.
what will other crap can they come up next ????
You may very possibly be right, i have the same thought, too. Put it this way, we Singaporeans are paying more and more and at the same time the ruling party is shortchanging the people who feed them more and more.
I think its okay. Reasonable.
I rather they save costs by stopping Saturday service rather than increase the price of the stamp, its already 26 cents for one now.
On Saturday, most people are out and do not want to check their mailbox anyway. LOL...
I used to send parcel to overseas espeically saturday while not working. If close.....chialet liao.
