I went on a 4 days trip to tokyo. Changed $1500 = approx 90000 yen. Still not enough!!!! Food cost 15-30 sing dollars. Hotels damn ex, food ex, train ex, taxi ex, . I wonder how people can live in TOKYO! Its CRAZY!!!! I spend 50000 for a 3 nights stay. Who have been to japan???? Wanna share experiences?
that's why birthrate low.
because our purchasing power parity compared to them is low

i agree...

you go Tokyo eat mac wasted lah. Want eat mac go downstairs can already, no need go Tokyo.
Tokyo is not expensive, it's just that you are using Singapore pay to spend in Japan.
Ask the Tokyo Mcdonalds' front line staff how much they make an hour.
Ask Australian Mcdonalds' server how much they make an hour.
Singapore is a developedd country with 3rd world wages.
Lols! I've even heard of people buying magie mee from sg to eat in JApan! i only eat 1 set of jap food which cost $34. Big portion lah, . Still ex. Quite true, go japan eat mcd is stupid la but thats what i saw in tokyo so i just went there and order lo.

purchasing power parity..
the MIW decided to "compete" using low wages... and refused to move the economy towards a higher wage/value add system.. maybe out of greed, maybe out of sheer selfishness because they didn't want their personal wage advantage eroded away...
so we get what we have in Singapore now... where the price of everything is out of control and we don't have the wage or economic structure to move on...
in that way, we were sold down the river...
in the meantime, if you want to visit places with the PPP higher than Singapore, be prepared to spend a crapload.. but it does expand your outlook on things.. see how the other parts of the world lives and what we can become...
Sporean jobs really underpaying their employees. I heard from a friend in japan, cleaners pay is 2000+ sing
In all honesty, is Singapore's PPP so low?
I think fresh grads all still quite ok right.. I mean my mexican friend is earning 1/2 as a fresh grad.. and I am sure their things not 1/2x cheaper.. Hmmm
Singapore only the PAP ministers pay higher than other countries. Others all lower.
Yup, your outlook really broadens up after having been to Japan. We really have alot of things to learn from japan in terms of technology! Super high tech can

compared to what the politicians tell us to "aspire to be", it is low...
compared to less developed places, it's high...
and we're told to be fasterererererer, bettererererererer and cheapererererererer
actually I think our purchasing power still quite ok la.
But something has to be done to help people earning under 1000$ per month. That group abit hard to live in singapore.
Nevertheless, still won't choose to work in Singapore if there is a choice. On top of being fasterererererer, bettererererererer and cheapererererererer still have to compare everyday with your peers on who has the newest LV bag or whos kids has the highest PSLE score.

Lucky I have no such problems with these mundane stuff.

for the middle class, if you are not keeping up with the Joneses, you're all right...
but there is a lot to be said about those who fall through bigger and bigger cracks (more like giant fissures now) and that they are not looked after..
i choose to use a cheap bag until it falls apart before i buy another one.. i'm seen as "useless" to the economy...
everything is geared to growing GDP.. but like someone said before, GDP isn't a good gauge.. a car wreck is great for the GDP.. new car, people in hospital paying the bills, medication, rehab.. all add to the GDP but it does nothing for the people...
Oh while we are at that..
Our social welfare is kinda shitty..
Things don't match.
High cost in Japan, against low wage in Singapore.
If cleaner in Singapore earn $2000+ like in Japan, will mean my cai png will no more be $2.70 - $3.00. May be will be $27.00 to $30.00 for two veg and one meat + rice. But will be big portion, I hope.
Japan Mcdonalds staff only takes 10 minutes to earn a Big Mac.

How long does it take a Singapore Mcdonalds staff to make a Big Mac?
1 hour?
Strange if you ask me, with high wages in Japan, it only takes 10 minutes to earn a Big Mac, whereas it takes at least 1 hour in Singapore.

Singapore is better off than Sao Paulo and Mexico City, but worse off when compared to Doha and Shanghai.
Kudos to PAP.
The problem with Singapore is the market structure and system.
I think you must have been to all the expensive places. The suburbs I heard have cheaper food and items.
i can only go chiang mai
