Will be going to australia on a fixed itinerary.. Just wondering what is there to buy or try besides the wine, ripkurl shorts etc
which state?
nougats
everybardie buys tt when in Oz and come back and disti to everybardie
i dunno why
but im glad im have strong teeth
the ripcurl and billabong stuff oso not exactly cheap there
and woah! the sizes are quite big (bcos they are bigger size?)
nougat is actually cheaper in Singapore!
buy the touristy crap like coin pouches made from kangaroo scrotum skin and other stuff you can't find here...
as for makan, go eat their LOCAL food there... no point going there and then looking for their crappy version of "Singaporean" food...
remember.. Singapore is one of the great ports of the world.. and our GST is very low compared to their taxes so chances are, you can find their stuff back in Singapore cheaper than they sell it there...
Nougats, but people will think you bought it from candy empire.

Asian food is OK, but provided you do not eat it at food courts (food courts are opened by Singaporeans who migrated over and charge tourist prices, whereas normal Asian family restaurants charge about the same price as Singapore.)

but you're a tourist.. why the hell would you go to another land, and try to find the food you eat almost every day of your life instead of trying out what the locals eat there?

Agree. Nougats used to be cheaper there but the Aussie dollar is growing so strong, plus prices have increased over the years.... that the price is slightly cheaper when you buy in Singapore.
Candy Mix is considered cheap. Costs about $10 (aussie) a kilogram. Yes, prices states in per kilo instead of 100g.
As for Cadbury Chocolates. They have more flavours. For normal flavours, used to cost $1 cheaper. But now its like 5 cents to 20 cents cheaper, and you probably find it all melting in your luggage when you reach Singapore.

Agree.
I love Aussie meat pies... =)
For Australia, I usually go for their fruits... depending on season.... fruits are hell cheaper there! =)
Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries for November/December.
But if you are finding fruits that are not from that season, you can expect to find rotten apples kept from May in November and they are double the prices of Singapore.
But my parents usually would want to eat one Chinese meal with rice about every 5 days. (we usually go there for about 2 weeks.) And we will usually visit their Chinese family restaurants, where prices go for AUD 12 - 15 per person (final bill).
For Chinese food, theres also takeaways... whereby you can buy a box of economical rice at AUD 8 and stuff as much dishes as you can into a box, and then bring back home to share. Thats cheaper though. 2 boxes for a family of 4 would suffice.

Australia is much more of a tourist destination for you to relax, appreciate wonders of nature.
Not much so on dining and shopping.
You can try their grape wine. Its nice and cheap. And theres certainly a lot of patterns to choose from. =)

i've found every type of chocolate you can buy off the supermarket shelves there in our supermarkets here..
you just need to look around a bit more...
TS has not stated which state or city he's going to... if he's going to somewhere like maybe Darwin, then i've no idea what to tell him
Maybe he's going to tasmania. Do you know cadbury chocolates are made in tasmania, shipped to melbourne, then flown back to tasmania for sales?
Maybe he is going to brisbane, if he is, I'll tell him to buy nougats.

Actually i am going sydney.. Thanks bear and the others for all the advice cheers
Oh, Sydney huh? I recommend nougats.
FUNNY???NOUGATS?most australians have neber heard of nougats.....some salesmen must have sold it to some dumb tourists n dumb tourists must have said it was australian indigneous sweets or something....
best would be port wine which is wayy cheaper than spore and rare in spore as well.their oz cadbury milk choclates tastes diffrent from spore cadbury milk choclates.spore ones are harder n actually hard as wax it n tastes like some solid thing.......but for oz cadbury milk chocoalets...tastes smother n creamier n softer like how a real choc should taste like.
what does sydney look like really????is it cheap?
likes their tall leggy blonde gals:)
Try some steak or jerky made from kangaroo or emu while you're there.
This sounds weird but Sydney actually have very good Korean food and Dim Sum thanks to all the immigrants going over there and it’s actually cheaper than Singapore for the same quality (might be different now with the exchange rate)
Anyway, even their supermarket frozen pies taste better than what we get here. They have really good pies there. My fav is still the Steak & Guiness Pie
Since you're going to sydney, a visit to their state university is absolute.
si ditzy
try the Kangaroo meat... its great!
try the chiobus its greater!
