Anyone been to Taipei?

  Planning to go later this year. anyone been there?

  Which sites / attractions are worth visiting and which to skip?

  and also can help recommend some budget hotels or mayb even backpackers inns

  will be there in november for about 4-5days.

  I was told there are a couple of budget hotel/hostels in ximenting (equivalent to our Orchard).

  Places to visit:   1) Yang ming san

                               2) That place in Taipei for tian teng (write your wish on the lantern and let go of lantern in the air for wish to come true)  

  3)  Shi ling night market for food

  ill go read up on those places.

  then lantern thing is abit scary thou. i did it once sometime back in sentosa a few years ago. was part of a huge crowd of people doing it.

  a coconut tree caught fire and one landed in my friends condo pool in mt faber (luckily it didnt land in someone's house).

  any special food items there to try? something like HK's smelly tou fu...

  sorry for being lor sor but seriously no idea. just booked tixs cause got promo.

  For the lantern stuff, what happened in Sentosa will not happen in Taipei.   It is a big piece of empty land for them to fly the lantern unlike Sentosa.

  Do you watch cable?  If you have subscribed to Starhub ch 54, everyday at 10 pm there is programme on their local food.     I saw too many of the food introduce till now I forgot liao.    If i remember I will tell you.

  Think Taipei is not the only nice place to visit, there are many other nice places.

  i know got nicer places but got good deal $188 return w tax on cebu pacific, but must transit manila

  Hong kong fashion is more up to date and food is fantastic.

  Taipei is not too bad as well as far as food is concerned.   As for fashion, I don't know.  The only cheap place in Taipei to get nice cheap clothing is wu fen pu

  If u don't mind travel longer hours, it is fine you go ahead with the cebu air

  hey TS...4-5 days, i serious suggest you to stick to 1 or at most 2 cities. Taipei alone, you can shop and tour for 3-4 days, and if you bring your partner along, she will shop till drop.

  standard shopping places in taipei is �fen and wu fen pu, and not forgeting their night mkt. if clubbing, go luxy! nice place..hehe...but luxy will be coming to sg for a tour, so probably you can give that a miss for the moment.

   

  have time, can go hua lian too. if on the way, go sun moon lake, and dun forget to go for thrill rides at wen hua chun.
