my budget is hopefully not exceeding $5k
today my idea is new york, grand canyon, vancouver
but new york is in the east coast -
depending on the time you fly, the airtickets can kill S$3K+ oredi....
my guess is that for those places, you won't be going during the winter.

I recommend SKorea. The favourable exchange rate helps too. Last time was 600W to 1S$. Now it is close or even exceeding 1000W. Seriously things are very cheap there.

go to Tioman Island for a dive or snorkelling. The beaches are white and lovely. The sea is sparkling emerald-green and crystal-clear. The corals are colourful and gorgeous. The seafood are fresh and delicious. ..etc. Everything is slow and relax.. Basically, bathing yourself in the beauty of nature.
Next,
to have some adventure is Mongolia or Tibet. Imagine riding horses across the Mongolian grassplain or making your blood flows faster in Tibet! i really different experience.
Third,
Japan. To summarise, in spring Japan is clothed in lovely pink and white. Summer, will be calming purple. Change to hues of red and oranges in autumn. And of course, silvery white in winter. Please take your pick! If you want to see those colours, I dont recommend Hokkaido. Kyushuu is not bad. In winter, go to Hokkaido! The coldest part of Japan but pamper yourself with seafood. yummy~

Japan?! Whaa... Burn hole in your pocket... One trip(10 days) easily cost $3500 for two people... One meal alone is $15 per person leh... SKorea still better. Better hurry, indication suggests S$ might drop, meaning overseas trips might get more expensive. Want to go? Better go sooner than later.
