There was once went to a place with make shift stalls selling normal hawker fare,it is near city square but i have forgotten how to go there as we were recommended the place by some malaysian friends. It is near some canal but the food there was pretty nice, wonder if that place is still around
And well there is this place near Eve's garden hotel think jalan ibrahim along the east coast side of johor bahru that serve really good zi char, thou you have to go to the resturant on the right hand side, the one on the left hand side sucks and is more expensive

Yes, 777 is nice, I am a frequent visitor of this restaurant
It is an open space restaurant concept, advise you all to visit it on Saturday as most of the nice stalls will be open on that day. The restaurant is also located opposite to the night market on Saturday, so after dinner you can take a walk there to find more snacks and food
But come earlier, as most tables are snapped up around 8pm...
Another place which is nice is a western food in Taman Melodies, nearby to Holiday Plaza...but it is not easy to find this place...just go behind Holiday Plaza and roam around...the name is Lemon Tree Restaurant, the chicken chop and spaghetti is highly recommended, most of my colleagues praised them to the heavens lolz...including me myself as well
Another gem near Holiday Plaza is a duck/chicken stall, but I dunno how to go there yet, only been there once and my colleagues drove me there de...
Another nice place is near the Pelangi Mall, it is a noodle soup place, very famous it seems and has appeared in newspapers before...When you make the U-Turn to go to Pelangi Mall, turn into the first turning you see, right after the bus stand, then go all the way in, and you will see a restaurant at your left...that's the place...
If you would like cheap Japanese food, got one near Leisure Mall, go during the weekdays and you just need to pay RM 10 for a set lunch which has a soup, chawan mushi, main dish (different dishes depending on the day you go there), rice and dessert consisting of yam jelly and fruits...you have to drive past Leisure Mall...forgot which turning already lolz...I just know it is after Leisure Mall, and it is located on the second floor...the first floor is a shop called Kim Kopitiam, also highly recommended...actually that area has a lot of very very nice food, if you can find it...
Will write more here once I find out more...every Tuesday is my lunch out time with my colleagues and they always bring me to nice places to eat
