To my knowledge, no you do not have to be someone who is only comfortable conversing with English. And no you do not have to be wealthy to attend acjc.*LOL* You just pay regular school fees and sports complex fees. But well acjc does a fair amout of fund raising for the school, because we don't get as much grants as other colleges.
And about bias, well, there is no perfect school whereby everyone likes everybody else. Doesn't happen in the real world either... and seriously, you cannot go around pleasing everyone on earth. The best is to be yourself. And if other students don't like you because of some silly bias like race or because you are from a "less desirable" background, sometimes, those people are not worth knowing. All they care about is themselves and not who you truly are. But I am sure you will find tons of friends in school. Open up a little and look on the positive side.
By the way I was from acjc, and I do have friends from chinese high and nayang and other schools too... the world is not made up of solely rgs, acs, mgs, "brand name" schools. The only things these schools can offer you, is their culture and also it is up to you to determine if you want to laugh or cry in school.

csferic,
The ACS family was never meant to be a place solely for the rich and famous. As a product of the "ACS system", i can assure you that students from the ACS line of schools are generally down to earth. After being in ACS for 10yrs, i have to say that i've never had a chance to personally experience snobish acts or outright bursts of conflicts due to status differences. To put things in perspective, you will always find a fair share of "high-class individuals" in any school you go to. ACJC or SRJC, HCJC or TPJC; go with your affiliate school first, because you WILL feel more comfortable (culture, ease of entry etc.). If an affiliate is not available, then get a school closer to home. All things being equal, choosing a Junior College just boils down to being practical. At the same time, feel free to keep the Secondary school spirit alive.

ACSians prolly got their "snob" label because ACSians tend to have some sense of loyalty and school spirit. It just comes with the territory.
