Dry ice , as we all know , are solid CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) . It goes through a process called sublimation , which from solid, turns into gas , when exposed to room termperature. So , when confined in a sealed environment (take it that the temperature of the object is of room temperature) , pressure starts to builds up . Pressure will continue building up until the object suffers a catastrophic explosion .
In this video , it shows you how a 2 litre water bottle can wreak havoc on a small swimming pool .

Ever wondered why the "bombs" are so devastating ? Infact , this is how atomic bombs are equally devastating . The atomic bombs dont explode on the ground . Instead , they explode in mid year . This is so that the explosion can be maximized . How ? Ok .
When the bombs explode in mid air , the energy will travel in all sorts of direction . On the ground , most energy only travels upward and sideways ( parallel to the ground ) . The ground absorbs part of the energy . However , when the bombs explode in mid air , the energy thats travelling downwards , will hit the earth and bounces back into the atmosphere . Hence , the energy is "reflected" and multiplied . Same goes to the "bombs" in these videos .
If you have noticed , the bottles dont touch the bottom of the bucket or the pool , just like what happen to the atomic bomb . When the bottles explodes , the energy that's travelling downwards gets reflected at the bottom and travels upwards instead , hitting the surface of the water . The cycle repeats itself several times , hence the energy is multiplied . Thats why when you watch the second video , when the bottle explodes , ripples and shockwaves can be seen on the water surface , even before the air (CO2) hits the surface . If such energy is strong enough and happens at sea, it can cause a Tsunami . Halifax harbour , in Canada , suffers a sad tragedy as a ship carrying ammunition exploded , the same way the bottles exploded . -

Btw , the atomic bomb on Hiroshima had a power of 13 kiloton TNT , which is very powerful . But not as powerful as the Hydrogen bomb .
Actually , for example , when you throw a grenade on the floor , the explosion will cause a crater , which is partly because the energy dissipated during the explosion is absorbed by the ground . In this explosion , no energy were reflected and multiplied .
However , if u suspend a grenade in the water (meaning that the grenade is below the water line , but not touching anything beneath as well ) and it explodes , the effect you see should be greater than what you see when it just explode on the ground .
In the first video , the reason why the bucket broke is because of the energy being multiplied . Look for other videos as well , especially videos of the "bombs" exploding just on the ground , and compare the results with the video i shown you . The "bombs" that explodes on the ground doesn't seem that devastating . It explodes just like a balloon , with plastic shards flying everywhere .
Got all this info from Discovery channel , when they investigate the reason why Halifax suffers such a catastrophic disaster . -
