Last season Cesc Fabregas scored twice in the Champions League qualifier in August then failed to hit the net again until April. So you can forgive him for a displaying a little decorum when talking about his opener in the 2-0 win over Sparta Prague on Wednesday.
Like the rest of the Arsenal midfield, the 20-year-old is aiming to contribute more goals this term. They have started the right way by providing three of the teamÂ’s four competitive strikes so far this term. But Fabregas is not getting carried away.
“Yes it is a target to score more goals,” he said. “But then last season at this same stage I said the same thing! Sometimes I did not finish chances properly or the keeper made a good save.
“For me, the most important thing is to create goals really. My Spanish coach Luis Aragones always says the most important thing is goals and the feeling you get when you score is amazing.
“But I have been educated since I was very young to make assists and make the team play. That is what I enjoy the most. Still if I can help with goals, then of course that is better.
“However tonight it was Clichy's goal anyway . He made the run and showed how fit and quick he is. It was all about him. I just had to look where the keeper was and put it the other way."
