WILLIAM GALLAS will go into tonight's Champions League qualifier against Sparta Prague as Arsenal skipper - but with a warning hanging over him.
The French World Cup defender has been told by boss Arsene Wenger that he must improve his attitude after gaining a reputation as a troublemaker during his time at Chelsea.
Arsenal's manager does not believe naming Gallas as his new captain is a risk even though it has upset Gilberto Silva who found out he was not getting the job after reading it on the club's website.
Wenger has since spoken with Gilberto to clear the air but it may encourage Juventus and Valencia to renew their interest in the Brazilian midfielder.
Wenger said: "William has to be an example not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.
"There is no special risk in giving him the job. Being captain is a special position but what is more important is the team spirit.
"I respect Gilberto a lot. I told him what I had to tell him and that's it."
Gallas said: "I know being club captain is not only a job on the pitch but also away from it.
"I have to set a good example in everything I do and I will do that. I think you will see a new William Gallas this year."
Yeah we do wanna see the new gallas. less moaning and a good motivator and defender.
