Gallas the new captain

Arsène Wenger has confirmed that William Gallas will captain Arsenal during the coming season.
The centre back, who joined from Chelsea less than a year ago, will be supported by vice-captains Gilberto and Kolo Toure on the pitch while Jens Lehmann will have a role off it.
Speaking to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday lunchtime the Arsenal manager outlined the reason for the change. Wenger is in charge of a very young squad this term so he needs to use every scrap of experience.
“[The captain] will be William Gallas,” he said. “There will also be two vice-captains, Kolo Toure and Gilberto.
“I feel centre back is always the best position to lead on the pitch and it is Gallas who has more experience at the back. But Gilberto has always been a great captain and Kolo Toure has a stature too.
“Aswell I made a decision that I want all those experienced players, along with Jens Lehmann, to be involved off the pitch. Players like Jens and Gilberto can play the role of a club captain. They can have a very strong impact mentally on the team. I want them to take on that responsibility.”
Oh well, knew it was coming....hope he does a good job -

i think wenger trying to play a game. make gallas captain give him the responsibility hope he will stay- make him feel valued. at the same time since gallas moaned all day about challenging 4 honours, it will be interesting to c how the team performs under the leadership of the captain indirectly reflecting on himself - gallas.

LONDON (AFP) - Brazil midfielder Gilberto Silva has been officially named as the successor to former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry, the club said Thursday.
The 30-year-old was vice captain last season and often led the side as Henry spent much of the season on the sidelines.
And with the mercurial French forward's departure to Barcelona during the summer, Gilberto has been handed the role on a permanent basis.
Experienced centre-backs William Gallas of France and Ivory Coast's Kolo Toure have been named the new vice-captains.
As Gilberto is still absent from the starting line-up following his involvement in the Copa America, it will be Gallas who leads out the team for Sunday's Premiership opener against Fulham. -

Also nvm having Gallas as captain. Gallas has more experience than Toure and his mouth is better than Gilberto. Think on the bright side

arsenal.com confirms it... gallas is the captain... maybe it has something to do wif gilberto's injury...

Fabregas can be captain, even though he is young but age is not a problem, it's the ability to control the flow of the team and link up every player. I don't see Gallas can do a good job here althought he is old enough.

actually come to think of it... maybe wenger is more comfortable to be his countrymen so dat both can communicate well so that the squad can be lead smoothly.
