Gael Clichy has conceded Arsenal will continue to underachieve until they learn to match their aesthetic appeal with a resilience in defence.
While there can be no disputing Arsene Wenger's side are a fine sight in full flight, all too often this season they have been undermined by a lack of a killer instinct.
Criticism levelled in their direction has suggested a profligacy in front of goal is a major Achilles heel at Emirates Stadium, but their young French defender believes otherwise.
A record of just two clean sheets in their last 10 games and just eight from 27 home matches this season suggests Clichy has a point, and it is one he is determined to rectify next term.
"I do not think it is only frustrating for the back four, I think it is for the team and the fans," said the 21-year-old.
"But like I always say when you cannot keep a clean sheet or you make a mistake, you have to ask yourself the right question.
"I think that is what we miss [clean sheets] because we play well and we know if we do not concede any goals then we will have the chance and the opportunities to score.
"We are trying really hard I can tell you, but for some time we have missed focus and we have made some mistakes. The important thing is to avoid those mistakes."
Shorn of the experienced departed duo Sol Campbell and Lauren, Arsenal's defence has looked a little short of defensive cunning this season but confident after a transitional campaign, Clichy believes the current crop can mould themselves into a solid unit reminiscent of bygone teams.
"I will work even harder next season to keep my position and I am looking to keep playing with all the defenders, because we all have qualities and we work hard to make something happen for the team."
