Portsmouth welcome Arsenal to Fratton Park on the final day of the season knowing that only a win will give them a fighting chance of claiming a Uefa Cup spot.
Even if they match their home victories over Liverpool and Manchester United in April though, a win for either Reading or Bolton will ensure that Harry Redknapp's side miss out on a top-seven finish.
For Arsenal, the incentive is to move above Liverpool and into third place, but Arsene Wenger's men must better The Reds' result against Charlton or overturn a goal difference deficit of two.
If Pompey are to achieve their European dream then they will have to do so without Sol Campbell as the defender will not face his former side due to an Achilles injury.
Dejan Stefanovic will also be absent due to a thigh problem, and Redknapp will also be without another former Gunner in Lauren (foot) as he looks to contain the joint-second highest scorers in the Premiership.
Left-sided star Matthew Taylor is rated as doubtful as a result of a damaged ankle, although with Richard Hughes (knee) but Pedro Mendes could be back to boost the midfield after missing two-and-a-half months with an ankle injury.
Svetoslav Todorov has also been on the injury list in recent months - having played just once in 2007 - but the Bulgarian striker could make an appearance after finally shaking off a knee problem.
Nwankwo Kanu will feature against his former side in a game that could prove to be his Pompey farewell if the South Coast side cannot agree a contract extension with the Nigerian star.
Arsenal will be determined to end a difficult season on a high note at Fratton Park, and pride will ensure that Wenger's troops look to finish above Liverpool as first runners-up to Manchester United and Chelsea.
Thierry Henry (stomach and groin), Robin van Persie (metatarsal) and Theo Walcott (shoulder) remain long-term absentees but Emmanuel Adebayor is also rated as doubtful due to a groin problem.
As a result, Julio Baptista is likely to feature in what is his last chance to impress Wenger before the Frenchman decides whether to sign him on a permanent deal from Real Madrid.
Freddie Ljungberg has shaken off a hamstring problem, unlike Tomas Rosicky, whilst Jens Lehmann and Gilberto will both be rested after a long campaign. -

quite true. But whatever it is, both arsenal and pool got the champs spot. rather than letting spuds or bolton to clinch that spot. As an arsenal fan,i wanna say good luck for the CL final. Honours even at Fratton Park
It finished all square at Fratton Park on Sunday as Portsmouth just missed out on a place in Europe on the final day of the season.
Despite a lack of goals both Pompey and Arsenal created plenty of chances and as goalless draws go this one was as fast-paced and eventful as they come.
Portsmouth had a good chance to go in front inside the first five minutes when Niko KranjcarÂ’s free-kick found the feet of Sean Davis who hit the ball just wide of the left post.
Minutes later Arsenal were attacking, Julio Baptista picked up on a ball in by Cesc Fabregas but his shot on target was cleared on the line by Djimi Traore.
With most of the possession in midfield leading up to the half hour mark the pace seemed to steady until Baptista again came close to putting the Gunners in front — a long ball in from Fabregas found the head of the Brazilian but the ball went just wide of the left post.
And almost immediately after Nwankwo Kanu at the other end sent the ball rocketing towards the net from 25 yards out but his effort was pushed over the bar by Mark Poom.
Five minutes from half-time Arsenal were awarded a penalty after Linvoy Primus made a reckless challenge on Emmanuel Eboue in the area. Baptista, who had been a constant threat for most of the game, stepped up for the spot kick but James pulled off a tremendous save to leave it goalless at half-time.
Arsenal started the second half well with an early chance to take the lead when Alexander Hleb's running down the left came one-on-one with the keeper but hit the ball just wide of the left-hand post.
Probably the best chance of the game though came for Portsmouth and Tresor Lomana Lua Lua who was clear on goal but was left looking to the sky in disbelief after he hit the ball wide on 50 minutes before being flagged offside.
Controversy then reared its head as Portsmouth finally found the back of the net just before the 70-minute marker but the goal was disallowed. Poom made a double save clearing shots from Lua Lua and Richard Hughes before Kranjcar finally netted only for the linesman to make a late call for offside.
Shots on goal were few and far between for the final 20 minutes with the closest in ArsenalÂ’s favour as Fabregas took an adventurous long range shot but hit it wide of the post to leave it goalless at full-time. -
