  Barcelona have made an enquiry for Branislav Ivanovic as competition hots up for Chelsea's defender.

  Sportsmail revealed that Real Madrid were willing to spend £15million on the Serbia international and he confirmed the Spanish champions' interest on Sunday.

  However, Real's fierce La Liga rivals Barcelona have also stepped in as they search for defensive  reinforcements, with prime target Thiago Silva looking likely to stay in Italy with AC Milan.

  Barcelona see Ivanovic as someone who can cover at right back and central defence as well as giving them extra physical presence.

  Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala are also in the frame. However, Chelsea do not want to sell the uncompromising defender cheaply.

  They are understood to value Ivanovic at £23m and his suitors face some hard bargaining over the next few weeks.
