I noticed that since 2002,there have been very few good young goalkeepers since the likes of Schmeichel,Buffon,Van Der Sar,Casillas,Kahn or Jose Chilavert. If you ask me,I can only name Manuel Neuer or Cech as good keepers nowadays. The likes of France,Italy,England,Holland and Spain are not producing enough talented shot stoppers.Sure, there may be the few good ones from Eastern Europe and South American goalkeepers are prone to the odd moments of madness.Let's open this topic of goalkeepers for discussion!
oliver kahn~!
sexiest frown in the world~!
I remember he and Schmeichel had fought for the Best Goalkeeper title in 1999.They were among the best in the world at that time.Schmeichel had a red nose most of the time just like Rudolf.
Pepe Reina

he is very promising.
culdicini and given also very good.
Casillas not good? Buffon is still playing for Juventus and he hasnt retired.
Yes the goalie these days are not as good as in the past. take england for example. last time got gordon banks, peter shilton, david seaman? now Joe Hart? he is just an above average goalie, not in the same class as seaman.

nah they are just above average goalie to me. not exactly what you call world class.
Actually I see an improvement in goalkeepers this season. The Newcastle and Swansea keepers are really impressive.
I won't rate Neuer as really very good, just good enough. And Cech I think had better days, lost of form or something in this last 1/12 seasons...
And Brad Friedel at 41 i think, is still fantastic and one of the reason Spurs are amongst the top as Gomez usually cost them a few points by this stage... Another one is 37 yrs old Radek Cerny, out of the blue he came out after first choice Patrick Kenny got injured i think...
So I think the standard of goalkeepers have gone up when we see amazing stops in many matches this season... The 2 young keepers at Newcastle and Swansea impressive me the most to date...
there's a difference between "good" and "world class". the names mentioned above are in the latter category.
saying that there is no longer any good goalkeepers is absolute rubbish. im sure even in singapore there are a number of them who are "good".

Those keepers you had mentioned are okay. The jury is still out on De Gea and on the Continent,Buffon,Casillas and Neuer are the only few decent ones left.Gone are the days where you can even find good keepers from countries like Sweden,Denmark and Holland.
Belgium? The guy is called Michel Preudhomme.Heard he was outstanding in the 1994 World Cup.And you have Andreas Koepke and Adoni Zubbizareta.
In South America right now,the only famous keepers are Rogerio Ceni and Jose Chilavert who were famous for their goals from set pieces and not just for their shot stopping. But it is just too bad that they never played in Europe for the better part of their careers except for Chilavert who had a short spell for Strasbourg in France.
Peter Schmeichel is the best for me.Was my favourite player at Manchester United.

Mandranda and Hugo Lloris are quite good too.But they were never approached by big European clubs.
Do you guys know anything about Central and South American goalkeepers?I know Ochoa cos he is Mexico's number one and the best in Central America. He is also tipped for a big European move.

Eiji Kawashima of Japan is also solid. If not,how he made it to Europe?
Last time people play football by walking and strolling, taking own sweet time to score. Nowadays, everyone aiming to score. How to compare?
Personally, i think GK nowadays are better than in the past. More agile, more alert.

depends on their team's defence also.good defence=gk dont need to do much to keep a clean sheet.
I think Hugo Lloris from France is not bad, and the Czech guy with the helmet (what's his name?).
In the past besides the likes of Schmeichel and Shilton, there was also those at the top like Pat Jennings, Dino Zoff, Walter Zenga...
Present day the current dutch no.1 Maarten Stekelenburg is also very good.
i love neville southall of everton.
they were the league champions then.
