Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in Real Madrid's 6-2 win at Sevilla last night to beat Leo Messi's record of 42 league goals in a calendar year and send his team back to the top of La Liga.
Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 10th minute and, after Jose Callejon had added No 2, slammed a spectacular third from the edge of the area four minutes before half-time.
Pepe was sent off just before the interval for a second yellow card but any hopes Sevilla had of capitalising on their numerical advantage were lost when Angel di Maria grabbed the fourth.
Jesus Navas made it 4-1 with 20 minutes left but Sevilla's Manu del Moral was sent off 15 minutes from time for bringing down Xabi Alonso.
Ronaldo completed his hat-trick from the spot to take his league tally for the year to 43. Hamit Altintop scored the sixth before Alvaro Negredo added a late consolation for Sevilla.
Ronaldo said: 'Those who criticise me don't know anything about football.'
But the fact is.....when there are el clasicos, he always cmi, except for that king's cup final last season. And the last el clasico, he was almost non-existent. Whenever he plays for portugal, he would always go invisible when they come up against above average opposition.
Messi's a bit different, he plays consistently for barca, not for country though. That's why some players are classified as true greats, others not. A true great would be the other ronaldo and zidane.
i dont find messi great coz he cant perform for his country.
I don't think you've really read properly.
Ya lor
I see 25% of the goals he came is from penalty
until he can lead his team to beat Barca comprehensively, then he will be a great... else Figo's shadow la..
messi still better lah.
Depends on system and team lar.
If you put Torres in Barca or RM now, I think he can score a lot of goals also.
His team mates will just place the ball where he wants and all he needs to do is shoot or tap in.
