They may not even qualify for the CL this season as it stands... Losing out in Italy is not an option for them this week... Cos it would put a set back to their club income for the current season by as much as $20 to $40m for next season...Anyway, it's hard to blame Wenger alone for their current problems... Cos for all we know, it could be the board who don't want to spend money and he has no choice but to accept their wishes...
Cos do not forget Arsenal do have debts of between $150 to $250 million to the bank... And as individual directors, why do you want to see money going out when you still have a debt to re-pay... Those directors are more interested to received bigger dividends each year rather than spend it on players and getting a lesser pay-out.
I think if it wasn't part of the board's decision, they would have sack him long ago... He is just taking the bullet for them for now...

Nevertheless, getting knock-out from the CL may not be a bad thing aferall as it would wake the board up... and it would help them to concentrate fully on the league and still have a chance to get their top 4 place back from Pool... who on current situation, looks the side most likely to benefit from their poor state of condition...
But who can blame him... Pool spent 100 over million this year, Arsenal made $40+ million already by selling players... And it could get bigger if Nasri goes as well...
