Parting shot! Bitter Nasri off to Man City as midfielder claims £23m deal is 'nearly done'
Au revoir: Nasri is set to join Manchester City in a £23million deal
Samir Nasri has confirmed he is close to following Cesc Fabregas out of Arsenal and claimed he will do so with a sense of 'anger and bitterness'.
A day after accusing fans of being disrespectful on Twitter, Nasri left a message for Facebook followers to reinforce his feelings.
'It's nearly done,' said the France midfielder in reference to a proposed £23million transfer to Manchester City.
Au revoir: Nasri is set to join Manchester City in a £23million deal
'I will leave with bitterness and anger in my heart. I am proud for having played with the Gunners.
'I have been very disappointed by the supporters last weekend. I am still an Arsenal player but I will leave very soon.'
City hope to complete the transfer before the weekend, with Arsenal at home to Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime.
Waving goodbye: Wenger lost Fabregas on Monday and now Nasri is set to leave
Stamp it out: Song was given a three-match ban on Tuesday
Arsene Wenger will be without suspended pair Gervinho and Alex Song for that match.
Gervinho was sent off at Newcastle last Saturday for slapping Joey Barton and his appeal against a three-match ban was rejected by the FA yesterday.
Song was given a retrospective three-game suspension for a stamp on Barton which the officials missed at the time and Arsenal decided not to contest it.
It was during the goalless draw at St James' Park when visiting Gunners fans reworked their usual celebratory Nasri song to accuse him of being greedy.
The sentiment stems from his refusal to extend a contract at the Emirates which expires next summer.
Turkish delight: Eboue has joined Galatasaray
Arsenal have offered a new deal worth £90,000 a week but City have dwarfed it with a package worth £165,000 a week.
Nasri did not play in the Champions League play-off against Udinese last night. He was serving a one-match ban for comments made after last season's quarter-final defeat at Barcelona.
It helped manager Wenger avoid the thorny issue of whether he should play and be cup-tied and unable to play for City later in the competition, but nothing appears likely to stop another star player leaving.
Gael Clichy has already moved north to Eastlands and Fabregas was sold to Barcelona for £35m on Monday.
There were more departures yesterday, with Emmanuel Eboue joining Turkish side Galatasaray for £3m on a four-year deal. Mexican striker Carlos Vela joined Real Sociedad on loan for the season and 21-year-old Brazilian defender Pedro Botelho also moved to Spain for a year to join newly promoted Rayo Vallecano.
was reading, how can he be bitter, when he is betraying his own club?? funny chap.. but as per $ashley Cole, he got a pretty idol to follow..
logically it makes sense for nasri to join man city
Arsenal not winning matches, they are not strengthening except buying more kids, Man City offer more money
Its a good move for Nasri
More top players moving to Man City spells potential danger to Man Utd and their supporters..
Therefore, I am not at all surprised when fans of the Red Devils branded players for moving to Man City as mercenaries; mercenaries for choosing Man city for purely money and not just they stand a slighty better chance at winning compared to Arsenal..
Call me judgmental but when I read about how he was disrespectful to Henry, I sort of condemned him. Good riddance.
Personally. I find him a good player from last year onwards and he has the potential to be the best player in the premier league... Thats my take, cos he was the best player in the first half of the season last year...
If United could get him, I would be very pleased but the salary City is offering is more than what United is offering Sneijder anyway... So I don't think it will ever happen.
Anyway, who can blame him for wanting to join City seriously? He is getting something like maybe $50k currently while Arsenal are only offering $90k per week to sign a new deal... That's like $45k after tax... At City, the 90k is after the 50% UK tax... It's really not a hard decision to make... It's like getting 2 weeks salary in one week, 2 yrs in 1 yr... or work 5 yrs for 10 yrs income...
On top of this, a better chance of winning titles and trophies... To borrow Joe Cole's words, it's really a no brainer not to go...
Arsenal's wantaway midfielder Samir Nasri has used Twitter to deny earlier comments posted on a Facebook account suggesting he was set to leave the Gunners on less than amicable terms.
The Facebook page, masquerading as part of Nasri's personal account, said his Arsenal exit was imminent and that he would "certainly leave very soon" with "bitterness and anger in my heart".
Nasri has been pursued by Manchester City throughout the current transfer window, and with contract extension talks at Arsenal long since stalling, the 24-year-old still appears set to leave the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger had hoped the club could hold on to Nasri, but recently admitted the Gunners were not in a strong position to retain his services.
The quotes attributed to Nasri were in relation to what he earlier described as "disrespectful" chants aimed at him by fans during Arsenal's Premier League opener against Newcastle - despite the France international not appearing on the pitch.
"I was very disappointed by the supporters last weekend," the message read. "I am still an Arsenal player but I will certainly leave very soon. It's nearly done. But I will leave with bitterness and anger in my heart."
To which the Frenchman later replied via Twitter: "Just to make things clear i dont have a facebook so i never said i was leaving with bitterness the guy who said that use a fake account."
The transfer of Nasri would follow the sale of former skipper Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona after protracted negotiations over the Spain midfielder were resolved earlier this week.
Kieran Gibbs and Johan Djourou picked up hamstring injuries during the game leaving them in serious doubt for this weekend's clash with Liverpool.
