  ARSENE WENGER is trying to sign Real Madrid's £35million-rated striker Karim Benzema.

  The Arsenal boss claims he will be 'extremely active' in the transfer market and confirmed he is targeting the French striker, 23.

  Benzema has scored 26 goals in 48 games for Real this season but his relationship with boss Jose Mourinho is frosty.

  Wenger said: "Signing him does not seem impossible. He's a player that I like.

   

  "He's intelligent in his movement, he is capable of combining well with others and making a difference, and of doing individual moves as well.

  "So, for me, he's a player who's at the top level in the world."

  Wenger faces a battle to keep left-back Gael Clichy, who is wanted by Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.

  The Frenchman has just a year left on his contract and could exit for £7m.

  Wenger is too stubborn. Quite possibly the whole world could tell that your goalkeepers are a bunch of jokers and so too are the centre backs apart from injury-proned Vermaelen but yet you chose to reinforce your frontline?!

  This season's BPL matches, a large part of the games dropped by Arsenal were due to goalkeeper howlers and defensive errors. I think Wenger is too stubborn to acknowlege this. Clichy, Nasri, Fabregas and co. are also quite certain of leaving Arsenal, especially when you slipped down from automatic qualification to Champions League Qualifier.

  wenger purposely drop to 4th place so that arsenal got to play extra CL qualifier match - rake in more $$$ from ticket sales and TV coverage.

  clichy this standard so horrible also desperate to keep. hopeless.

  not just defender lousy. wenger style is also dont like to play defensive midfielders. like that sure leak goals non stop

  From an economist major point of view it seems this way but I find it dumb.

  If he mis-cued and lost he has only himself to blame.
