Rant: Kenny Dalglish (left) was seen to swear at Arsene Wenger
The FA have rebuffed hundreds of letters from fans suggesting Kenny Dalglish should receive a Wayne Rooney-type punishment after being caught swearing on camera.
The Liverpool boss was heard telling Arsene Wenger to ‘p*** off’ during his side’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates last Sunday but the FA have drawn a distinction between the manager’s actions and those of the Manchester United striker.
The governing body received ‘roughly 200’ complaints from viewers about Dalglish’s four-letter remark but in a response seen by Sportsmail the FA said: ‘The clear distinction to be made in the Wayne Rooney case is that the language used was directed specifically at a television camera lens, whilst clearly audible to the viewing public.
‘We will always take a view on every incident reported to us by match officials, who also have the ability to apply Law 12 in relation to insulting and abusive language or gestures. No action will be taken against Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish.’
