Non-commital: Nasri - who is Arsenal's top scorer with 14 goals this season - has put contract talks on hold
Samir Nasri has clouded his Arsenal future with an admission that his contract talks have been put back until the end of the season.
Nasri’s excellent form during this campaign has grabbed the attention of potential suitors, including Champions League opponents Barcelona, because the 23-year-old’s contract is set to expire next year.
A new five-year package is on the table, thought to be worth £75,000 a week, and his agent said, earlier this month, that Nasri was happy to stay at the Emirates but the France midfielder was far less categoric in an interview with Sport magazine.
‘We promised each other to speak about this subject after the season ends,’ said Nasri, in reference to his contract discussions, which would leave the player in a very strong bargaining position, with only 12 months to run on the deal he signed when arriving from Marseille in 2008.
Nasri watched from the bench as Arsenal drew with Leyton Orient of League One in the FA Cup on Sunday but will return for Wednesday’s Barclays Premier League game against Stoke, when the Gunners can close the gap on leaders Manchester United to just one point.
