Roy Hodgson claims the shadow of Kenny Dalglish was always over him at Liverpool
ROY HODGSON claims the shadow of Kenny Dalglish was always over him at Liverpool and he never felt wanted.
“If you’re asking whether I was happy to be sacked by Liverpool, the answer is that of course I wasn’t,” said Hodgson, 63, as he stepped back into the Premier League with West Brom only 35 days after his Anfield dismissal.
“I went there with the right intentions but I wasn’t given the time because the new owners decided to make a change early on.
“It’s no secret that I wasn’t perceived by a lot of people as the manager they wanted at Liverpool. They wanted someone else.” Dalglish, the people’s choice, has stepped in and stopped the rot at Liverpool and Hodgson now has the new task of saving West Brom from relegation.
Hodgson said of the change of ownership at Anfield: “The new owners were in a very difficult situation because we weren’t winning enough games and the fans made it perfectly clear they wanted me gone and somebody else in. But the players and staff were excellent,
“Of course you feel wounded. It’s better if the fans say, ‘We know of him, we know what he can do’. I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t that way at West Brom.”
