The baby daughter of Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has severed the ends of her fingers in a horrific accident.
Tevez missed training on Thursday following the incident in which one-year-old Katie trapped two of her fingers in a door.
The Argentinian had to endure an anxious wait as surgeons in Manchester reconnected the tips of his daughter's fingers and tried to repair severely damaged tendons.
The procedure is expected to be a success, but according to those close to him, Tevez has been left deeply distressed by the incident. But happy that Katie is being taken care of, he has told Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini that he will play in today's derby with Manchester United at Old Trafford.Katie and her sister Florencina live with their mother - from whom Tevez is estranged - in Argentina and have been spending time with their father in England.
Before the home game against West Bromwich Albion last Saturday, he carried both girls out on to the pitch with him before kick-off.
It was also the South American's 27th birthday and Florencina was snapped carrying a bunch of balloons.
Carlos split from his wife last summer and began dating Argentinian actress Brenda Ascinar, 19, who is the star of the country's new version of the US hit comedy Ugly Betty.

And while both of them have kept their relationship as private as possible, last summer, she gushed about him on an Argentinian TV show.
Speaking to host Susana Gimenez, she said: 'He’s very handsome, but I am very careful about my private life.
'Furthermore, we must understand that he has a family and a small baby, even though he is not with his wife anymore.'
