Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is happy to be judged at the end of the season if his decision to offload several veterans last summer was right.
Players such as Joe Cole, Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Ballack, Deco and Juliano Belletti moved on but although the Chelsea manager often extols the virtues of experienced players, even when results have dipped he doesn't look back.
He told chelseafc.com: "Our philosophy at the end of the season was, because a lot of players were at the end of their contracts, to change our way and to give opportunity to the young players to grow from the Academy.
"This was the reason and now we can't come back to say, ah, we had players with experience. Our philosophy was to put more young players in and now we have to wait to see if we had a good idea or a bad idea - but we were agreed to change this direction."
chelsea team is thin in comparison to man utd, man city, spurs
actually, MUFC may have the same issue soon, with the veterans retiring like EDS, GN, Scholes, Giggs, even Rio.
that's why Man City is the future...................but Mancini must go 1st...............
Man Utd and Chelsea old liao....................Arsenal no money to spend...............

no wonder, U sprout nonsense..
Arsenal got money, but now their "forever-young" squad has matured, so no need to spend like crazy like the blues.
i think spurs are the best in this aspect. they have a lot of 'reputable' players to choose from.
i dont see chelsea playing any of their youngsters. wonder why they sign this 'gem' and that 'gem' for.

It all boils down to great transfer strategies by the director of football. Look at how much they "saved" from purchases like Van der Vaart and more recently, Pienaar. And also how much the earn from Robbie Keane's "loan" spell at Liverpool?
Lolx nia
all the veterans sell it all to AC Milan

the Chelsea board seems to treat the Chelsea academy as a "factory" to source for undeveloped? talents and than put in a "made in chelsea" tagmark and then sell them off cheaply to other clubs. then when the first 11 need players, they will pay 30-40m just to buy and get ripped by other clubs.
it makes me wonder why do the board even bother to sign young players for a fee when ultimately they have no intention of them coming through the ranks.
scott sinclair, miroslov stoch and bensahar are clear examples... all 3 of them had did well while out on loan but not given a chance to wear the chelsea shirt. but they all still did well after leaving chelsea.
scott sinclair has been superb in the Championship...
the next to go will be michael mancienne, jack cork, and all the other loan players away from chelsea right now.
i think chelsea will slump one RA leaves.
there is just no way the club can carry on without proper management.
and there is just no way RA can continue spending. he is rich but there is a limit.

well, not a lot of EPL clubs chairman/board are patient, cause once performance slides, they will fear dropping into championship and lose a slice of EPL money. Look @ Bent's purchase, and U can see the logic.
only a few clubs like gunners/manU, with established management/managers, are able to tolerate a greater degree of testing/trying of youths. for chelsea/mcity, they have to produce results quicker as the investments are so huge, so expectations are high.
For most teams, i do believe they get lots of gems, in the hope, that one of them can turn into aka Ronaldo and really influence the results. And in some cases, sell for massive profits.
well, if chelsea is seriously consider breeding its own youngster, it has to start sooner than later. also roman has to lower his expectation and has patience with the whoever manager he wanted to put incharge. it will meant 2-3 season without a trophy.
just like arsenal, who spent 5 season without a trophy. but is seriously building a team of youngster with talent.
