It's old news, but one which Howard Webb - the one who makes "bad" decision agst Pool in FA cup...told Blackpool players to do on Liverpool.
U need not wonder if he had reminded them again.
Be more dishonest and you’ll win more free-kicks, referee Webb 'tells Blackpool' ahead of Liverpool clash
Britain’s top referee, Howard Webb, has given Blackpool a huge helping
hand for their Boxing Day clash with Liverpool – and allegedly told the
Tangerines to be more dishonest to win more free-kicks.
Ahead of the Reds’ visit to Bloomfield Road, the 39-year-old, who
oversaw both World Cup and Champions League finals this year, has
instructed Ian Holloway’s players to go to ground more easily rather
than try to stay on their feet, it has been claimed.
The shocking claims came as Webb lectured the Tangerines in an FA scheme
which aims to ease the relationship and levels of understand between
the man in the middle and the players.
Too honest: Howard Webb has told Blackpool's players to go down more easily to win free-kicks.
Defender Ian Evatt lifted the lid on Webb’s lecture, and claimed:
‘Howard was basically here just to go over some refereeing decisions. He
showed a bit of honesty and told us where we were going wrong.
‘He spoke to me about why I didn’t get a foul against Manchester City
when Carlos Tevez caught me in the build-up to one of their goals.
‘He said I was too honest and stayed on my feet. He said if I had gone down it would make the decision easier to give.
Fall guys: The Tangerines' centre-back Ian Evatt takes on Rooney/Didier Drogba - he's told his team to not be so naive
‘I think that is where we are too naive. Most of us have come through the Championship – a more honest game, so to speak.’
The 29-year-old centre-back moved from Queens Park Rangers to Blackpool
four years ago and his Tangerines go in to the Boxing Day game in good
form – they have collected eight points in their last four games.
In their first Premier League season Holloway's side have excelled, and
currently sit tenth in the table, only five points off fifth-placed
Tottenham.
Evatt added: ‘In the Premier League, if you fall over you tend to get decisions.
‘We are not talking about cheating, but sometimes we have to be less naive and go down under a challenge.
‘We’re not going to make a meal of it, just show there’s a foul. It makes the ref’s decision easier.’
any empirical data to support these claims?
for me, I was circulated/shown the photo where Webb was in a MU jersey.
if the claims are true, and he has MU Crest under his uniform, i would petition him to be the ref for MU vs Chelsea rescheduled game. not that it would be a sure win for MU, but just that his so-called decisions would irrates the hell out of the stinkers.
Loser just say this, blame refree only.... Admit the fact that Berbatov was tripped INSIDE penalty area and helped Man U to win penalty chance. That is all.
I didn't know you can be "tripped" by a hand just gliding past the back of yr jersey!!!
Must be a new form of defence or a new rule in football.
Am not critising the referee as they are human after all but no matter how many times you look at the clip posted up there by palachan, it is still not a penalty! Berbatov was cheating/diving and should been given yellow card instead! If this is an offence, players will be penalised for touching the opponent!
"it's an honest mistake, let's move on"
"no amount of refereeing can prevent human mistakes"
this kind of thing is no longer valid for discussion ever since henry used his hand to qualify for World Cup.

wow, u speak like King Kenny..
Anyway, pls stop labelling people or MU players for diving so easily.(I can easily find clips of Pool players diving also, as per U can find Rooney, so no one is an angel).
Any players know that once they are in the penalty boxes, and any contact can be rewarded by a penalty or yellow depending on angle of contact and call by referee.
this may be a "soft" touch, but given this is @ OT, I am sure the ref is "influenced" to give the penalty.

aiyah, some people just like to cut off their noses to spite themselves. they keep chasing their tails about how MUFC is diving/cheat, but they fails to see that their own supported clubs are only littered with similiar acts..

your clip doesn't show anything u know. Just shows agger chasing berba, that's all. Got a better clip?

after seeing that clip so many times which in fact doesn't show the part where berba fell, you are able to conclude it's not a penalty...amazing. It's a soft touch, even the commentator and soccernet reported so and berba made the most out of it.
Anyway, do you play football? Sometimes these things are hard to tell. You are running so fast that sometimes just a soft touch can get you to ground.
Anyway, u see agger's reaction after the penalty, there wasn't much of a protest to say he's not guilty of it. Contact was definitely made.

But why Man U never get awarded the penalty against Portsmouth in the FA Cup encounter at OT 3 years ago? Because of that, Man U eventually suffered a stun defeat to the eventually FA Cup champ.
Actually the clip is very good... Just watch Agger's left foot... Daniel Agger did clip Berbatov's right heel. It is soft but, no matter how soft it is, he shouldn't be doing that in the first place not when the ball is so far away... If anything, it's Agger's poor positioning that let Berba in and in trying to make up... He kind of panic tackle...
A clear view would be to look at the full body picture... Look carefully where was the ball and where was Agger's left foot attacking?
And don't just look at the foot, look at his right arm as well... He shouldn't be pushing him from the back either...
Looks more like he was going for the man rather than the ball...
Howard Webb was brave and made the right decision cos most referees wouldn't dare to give the home side a penalty in the first minute even if it is one... That's why he is considered one of if not the best in the world currently...
I felt the commentary seemed to favour Pool cos even Gerrard's outrageous two footed tackle on Carrick was deem ok at first and when Webb took out his red card, they were like in disbelieve Gerrard can be sent off kind but once the replay was shown... They kind of accepted it and couldn't find other excuses to defend him...
In my opinion, Howard Webb made 2 brave decisions and both were correct without a doubt...
Anyway, thanks for the clip...
LOL. Actually my connection lagged just now, resulting in the clip not being able to load fully.
On 2nd look, berba would have been really brave to dive had there been no contact coz agger was not even halfway into in his periphery.
True....thanks for the clip too.
I thought the clip on his heel might not have enough to bring him down, it might have made him lose his balance but a combine clip at his heel and a push from the back... Cos just look at Berba's body from the full body view... His body actually went forward from the push... How you want to argue against this I don't know...

no contact on the heels

A pleasure! At least i learnt a new excuse......... " my connection lagged" huh!
Pretty good excuse for a clone.
This 2nd video is even better... Bigger and can see even clearer...
Just look at where Agger's foot is... On the first picture, we can already see him cutting into Berbatov's path which he shouldn't when the ball isn't there...
The 2nd we see from a different angle... See how Berbatov's left leg is caught behind Agger's...
The 3rd, very good one. See how high Berbatov have to raise his left leg to avoid Agger... And remember, all these while Agger never even get close to the ball...
Watch the video again, the second one even better cos sometimes in real time, we can miss out certain things that are too quick... But in freeze mode, we could get a better idea... I got these pictures from it... Note, Keep a look-out on the 4th second...
It could be a clip, a push from behind, or even a deliberate obstruction to his progress without playing for the ball... Just choose any one...

notice from pic1-3, there was no foot contact and berbatov's running posture was normal
notice pic4, berbatov still up and running, this is where he starts to dive
notice pic4&5, berbatov trying very hard to extend his left leg backwards - to hook agger and make it appear as if he was tripped
He has good hindsight huh lol. I think to each his own since utd and pool fans have different opinions. Live and let live then.

i'm not in denial though.
bebatov dived. messi would have stood firm. gerrard would probably roll 3 metres ahead
