Now Kenny Dalglish is back. Has he still got the magic touch he used at Anfield and Ewood Park back in the 90s?
Liverpool played badly that day. They better buck up soon!
Originally posted by Zweiz:but o'neill did more than 'perform in europa league', right after he won promotion with leicester, he took leicester to 9th, 10th, 10th & 8th the next 4 seasons winning 2 league cups along the way (and he never won lma manager)
depending on how you look at it, he could have 4 good seasons (roy had 1 good season with fulham) or he took leicester to 'the next level' - from avoiding relegation to cementing a place in the top half of the table - this is why many (including myself) rated o'neill higher
also, i'm lazy to count, but a quick glance seems to tell me that o'neill alone won more trophies than the other 4 (mclaren, curbs, burnley & roy) combined.
so curbs didn't take charlton through two promotions and cement them in the premier league?? he didn't take charlton to the next level?? he didn't save west ham from relegation and then finish top ten the next season??
Sure he didn't win the league cup or the other managers didn't win as many as o'neill did but mon won the bulk of his trophies at celtic which isn't a hard thing to do, just ask strachan
I'm not asking curbs or mcclaren to be rated higher than o'neill, i'm just lamenting the fact that they don't come anywhere close to o'neill

Errr... Actually, this Kenny Dalglish couldn't do it even at Celtic leh...
I know and agree it's a much easier league... For me, O'Neill is good but he isn't great. A top 4 to 8 club he would be good but top 3... He still isn't proven material... For all we know he is just another Roy Hodgson...
One more thing is dalglish won titles at a time when the EPL was probably 3rd best in europe. 1988-1990 and 1995......The Serie A and La Liga were way ahead.
Well fergie also steamrolled the EPL during that era, when chelsea came along, the story became a little different. Nevertheless he fought back and continued to win titles again. And what's more, he won the 2008 European cup......things like these are what seperates greatness and mediocrity.

you know, 2 promotions with charlton means he relegated them once right? =D
also, winning 2 league cup actually means alot especially when you're leicester (just imagine blackpool winning 2 league cups now)
p.s. mclaren was rated pretty highly once - that's how he got the england job. what happens afterwards is history

agree with o'neill. next, what lv club (just for discussion's sake) would you give rafa & roy?
personally, i'll give roy 10-15 and rafa 3-5.

I don't even know if other Pool fans can agree with you on this... So many said Rafa had to go before the end of last season...
did you ask those 'other pool fans' who would they want as a replacement?
i know many who wanted rafa replaced with a top manager like jose, capello etc (reality check fails) and look who we got

I think it was anyone other than Rafa at that time... and maybe even now... There is no need to question whether they are really 'pool fans' cos I have been here long enough to know they are true blue pool fans... And I didn't see anything wrong with their opinion either... Rafa was taking them downhill... fact, 7th place.
Again, like i said earlier... Their Managing Director Christian Purslow went out and 'head-hunted' the Current Manager of the Year... Isn't that good enough?
If Fergie is to win it this year, he isn't good enough too?

still four seasons in mid table in the premiership even if you left out his first season in the epl
yep still the same as o'neill
I can tell it doesn't mean much to blackpool, just look at the cup teams holloway puts out!!
Maybe it means a lot to leicester but i'm not sure it means much to anyone else, when the foxes won it, the cup was called worthington, others prefers to call it the worthless cup...

7th place doesn't seems so bad considering we are 12th now

yeah, except for 2 trophies and a relegation, same as o'neill

like the team villa/man utd put out in the finals last year?
you can be sure blackpool would put out a different team at the finals... if they get that far
Tonight if still draw or lose how ? Lol

Am actually quite confident Liverpool will win this match.

Thats the thing, the rot started there with him... From 2nd to 7th...
Now they are currently 12th but maybe who knows... 4, 5 months from now, we may say 12th wasn't so bad... Now we are 14th?

Thing is they don't even wanna get that far...
Originally posted by Cristiano@Red_Devils.com:I read the previous posts about former winners of the so called lma manager award, and saw the name “George Burnley” mentioned several times. I think you guys meant George Burley of Ipswich town. Burnley is a football club
George Burley's best time was at Hearts of Midlothian. In the 13 games in charge, he brought them on par with the Old Firm. Despite his short reign, he never lost a match at Tyencastle.

valencia 'rotted' from 1st to 5th. they were 1st again on the 3rd year
houllier ended in 7th on 98/99. the next year, liverpool ended at 3rd

because they can't? because they don't have a manager like.... o'neill?

If the team is not strong enough, that is so much Ah Ken can do.
What Ah Ken can do is to clean up the house and beef up the team.
That is the hardest job for a manager to be.
But, the manager need to be very strong to support all critics from all area.
Ah Ken is experienced to handle the pressure and the press.
He still need the owner to buy some decent players to back him up.
Or else he cannot do much to save Liverpool from relegation.
