City's target man: Dzeko is expected to cost the club £30million
Manchester City were last night in talks with Edin Dzeko’s agent over the fine details of a £30million transfer from German club Wolfsburg.
Sportsmail understands that Wolfsburg have finally been persuaded to talk over a deal that would include a down payment of €35m (£30m) as well as some performance-related add-ons.
The deal is not yet set in stone and cannot be completed until the transfer window opens next week across Europe.
However, the fact that Dzeko’s agent — recently a guest of City at the Manchester derby — has travelled to England for talks is indicative of how confident City are of completing what is likely be the biggest transfer of January.
City tried all last summer to sign the giant Bosnian striker but were thwarted by the huge fee placed on his head by the Bundesliga club that is owned by car giants Volkswagen.
Indeed, as recently as last week, City were being told they would have to pay £38m for him.
However, City coach Roberto Mancini has implored the board at Eastlands to do all they can to sign a player he feels could make the difference between winning the Barclays Premier League and finishing in the top four.
What is helping Mancini’s cause is the fact that Dzeko himself has made it clear he wants to come to City. As Sportsmail revealed before Christmas, he took the extraordinary step of writing to City confirming his interest back in August.
Looks like City is doing what Chelsea did to others in the past by buying the players they want and preventing them from getting their man and improving their squad... Robinho, Tevez, Yaya Toure, James Milner... And now this fellow Edin Dzeko and possibly David Luiz from Benefica too...
if dzeko leaves, mcClaren xee liao lah lol. It's crazy what city can do. But now things in the league look spicier and there will come a day when utd plays second fiddle and we utd supporters just suck thumb hor :)

Tis guy come
Surely Adebayor say gd bye
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has admitted that Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko could be the missing piece of the jigsaw as City strive to win the Premier League, according to reports in Germany.
Mancini has publicly stated his interest in signing the Bosnian, but City will have to pay £34 million to land the highly-rated striker, who scored against neighbours Manchester United in the Champions League last year.
Dzeko has made no secret of his desire to leave the Bundesliga side, and on Tuesday Goal.com UK revealed that the clubs were close to agreeing a deal for the 24-year-old, despite interest from AC Milan who were his favoured club.
The move could see a swift exit from Eastlands for players struggling to make an impact in the City first-team, such as Roque Santa Cruz and Emmanuel Adebayor -the ex-Arsenal striker who recently turned down a loan move to relegation-threatened West Ham United.
With Manchester City currently joint top of the Premier League, Mancini believes that Dzeko could be the difference between winning the league title this season or falling short.
"We have the chance to win the league this year and the decisive factor could be Edin Dzeko. This player can decide titles and that is why we want him,’’ the manager told Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung.
Wolfsburg are set to make a huge profit on him after signing him from FK Teplice for £3 million in 2007. A move to City for £34m would also break the Bundesliga transfer record, which was set when Mario Gomez moved from Stuttgart to Bayern Munich in May 2009 for a fee estimated to have been just under £30m.
i doubt city can win the title this season.
they are very very inconsistent. and their defence sucks!!!

Adebayor, Santa Cruz and Jo are all marked to leave even if this guy doesn't come...
Tevez and Balotelli already very good somemore they add this guy... A totally difference kind of player to them. Big and powerful in the air, giving them a plan B, C and even D i guess... City could win the Premier League title very soon, it's just a matter of time only, and who knows, maybe even this year...
• Bosnian striker will cost City a fee in region of £34m
• Forward could arrive in time for Arsenal match next week
The Wolfsburger Allgemeine reports that City will pay an initial fee of €30m, followed by a further €5m should they qualify for the Champions League this season. An extra €5m would be required to for a signing-on fee and to pay agents. Bild reports that Dzeko could be in place in time for City's visit to Arsenal next Wednesday.
Roberto Mancini has made no secret of his admiration for the Bosnian striker. "We have the chance to win the league this year and the decisive factor could be Edin Dzeko," he said yesterday. "This player can decide titles and that is why we want him."
Dzenko reminds me of Shevchenko (and he even look like him too if you notice).
So will he be a £34m flop like Sheva?

think platini's initiative on clubs overspending will take effect in 2012....so i hope that lands city in trouble. Gross overspending.
with their current players and more reinforcements to come, i really think city will be a force to be with reckoned with next season. And I have been watching their games. They had a shaky start to their seasons but the last 4 weeks or so, their teamwork has been improving. With quality players and a good rapport in the play, this kind of team is championship material.
But then again, now they sit joint top with utd.....it looks cosmetically pretty to me. They are 2 games ahead of utd. So when it comes to the stage when all clubs have equal no. of matches played, it may tell a different story.
Lukaku (left) strong interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea
Manchester City have made contact with Anderlecht over teenage striker Romelu Lukaku to say they are ready to meet the £18million asking price.
The 17-year-old has been the subject of strong interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea, while Arsenal have also watched him extensively, but Anderlecht's valution has left a limited market with City ready to flex their financial muscle if they can convince him to move to Manchester.
