The decision to appoint Pardew this week has been ridiculed but the new Toon boss had the last laugh as his side cruised past the Reds.
Skipper Kevin Nolan led from the front but his goal was cancelled out by Dirk Kuyt. Scouser Barton was on hand to restore the lead and Andy Carroll thumped a late third to make it a perfect first day for Pards.
Sol Campbell was sweating early on when he allowed Glen Johnson's long ball to slip under his foot. Fernando Torres could not cash in, however, and Tim Krul rushed out to the rescue.
Maxi Rodriguez then had a crack but Newcastle weathered the early storm and started to settle in. But they could have been behind with 10 minutes gone after Jose Enrique gifted Liverpool a soft free-kick.
The Toon star fouled Glen Johnson on the edge of the box, Raul Meireles crossed and the ball eventually broke to Sotirios Kyrgiakos. But Kyrgiakos could not take advantage and Krul parried his drive.
Newcastle had their first sniff moments later but Carroll was denied by Pepe Reina. It did not matter though as the hosts soon broke the deadlock.
Barton sent in a free-kick, Carroll nodded down and Nolan blasted past Reina. The Spaniard was called into action soon after when Carroll played a one-two with Shola Ameobi before pulling the trigger.
Wide-eyed wonder: Newcastle owner Mike Ashley faced calls to resign before and during the game
At the other end, Liverpool came close to a leveller 12 minutes before half-time. Meireles drilled a shot through the box that came off David Ngog and had to be cleared off the line by Enrique.
Krygiakos then nodded wide as the Reds finished the half strongly.
Newcastle came storming out of the blocks after the break and Reina had to be alert to grab Barton's cross. But within five minutes of the restart Liverpool were level.
Kuyt picked up possession on the edge and, as Sol Campbell tumbled to the floor, the Dutchman's shot crept past Krul off the boot of Steven Taylor.
Toon looked to hit back and Carroll thundered a header over the bar from the penalty spot.
Pardew then threw Nile Ranger into the mix and the rookie could have had a first top-flight goal seconds later when he blazed wide.
Newcastle did not have to wait too long to find the net, however, with Barton the hero. The former Manchester City ace tucked past Reina on 80 minutes after Carroll had flicked on a Krul punt forward.
It was party time St James' Park but there was more to come and Carroll hit a glorious third in the final minute.

actually this newcastle first eleven is pretty good if you look at the team sheet. They are capable of a europa cup place. And this carroll seems to be winning a lot of high balls from the last third of the field.....looks like there's another traditional centre forward in the making again. Last I saw was Vieri but he's italian haha.

u too
I think this only shows how inconsistent pool is and how good barton is.....
Liverpool is not good enough and not inconsistent.
It need two changes in Jan 2011.
Some more new enforcement in defence and attack.
As for Ah Roy, he is too timid to drop Torres and maintain his winning formation.
So, he have to move on for some one more ruthless.
Newcastle was not a lousy team and made Liverpool pay their price.
I am disappointed with this defeat.
I am surprised Roy has last this long.
Ah Roy have to thank his lucky stars as he managed to win some games after losing some.
If he carry on losing for the next four games, he will be replaced in Jan.
He is lucky cos some of senior players support him and not like man city.
O Neil is available in January
aiyo
no torres
liverpool win (3-0)
gt torres
no power (3-1)
Liverpool dumb...
A 3-1 win over Liverpool is a great result for any team.
But for a newly-promoted team, it is all the more spectacular.
If Newcastle can just consistently perform like this, a Europa League place next season is totally possible.

haha u've got pretty wild fantasies there. Your brain surely can't be bigger than my toe.
The Liverpool owner have experience with an american football club.
He need time to understand the soccer game.
But, the basic player and manager management is about the same.
I believe Henry is giving Ah Roy half a season to turn things around.
He can play with a few options.
I guess the option he would adopt is to buy a few players in Jan 2011 and see how Ah Roy work with the squad to improve the position.
I am not sure whether the spanish gang can tahan Ah Roy for the second half of the season and they may choose to leave if there are no buy in Jan 2011.
Liverpool will fall a few more times this season like last night and have to watch every game onwards with a open mind.
Liverpool were just unfortunate they came up against the "new manager syndrome" yesterday cos Newcastle had not won a single match in their last 5 games, getting only 2 points from a possible 15... Then yesterday suddenly got new manager, everyone started running hard again...
I dun think so.
The defence is a suspect with the greek around.
Liverpool cannot be lousy suddenly.
Chris did a good job and he should not be sacked.

but liverpool can also do likewise and sack roy and appoint O Neil, who is available now.
hodgson just issued a warning to his defence. Shape up or out. Skrtel? Weak link. Carragher also....he's just slow man.
frankly speaking, alot of players in the liverpool team are just not good enough.
think of players like lucas, ngog et al.
