  Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has set aside €50m to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, according to reports in Italy.

  The Itasportpress website claims the Italian giants are desperate for new impetus to save their season and Moratti sees Fabregas as the ideal marquee signing to steady the ship and placate the fans who are growing uneasy after a poor start to the season.

  Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez took over from Jose Mourinho in the summer but the Spaniard is already under pressure following a string of defeats.

  But Moratti is confident that even if he has to replace Benitez any future appointment will be happy to work with Fabregas.

  The 23-year-old Spain star was at the centre of the summer's longest transfer saga when Barcelona were desperate to bring their former youth player back to the Nou Camp, but Arsenal refused to sell and Barca were unable to up their £30m offer.

  Inter chief Moratti is hoping €50m will tempt Arsenal to do business.

  Inter should first get rid of Benitez.

  Buy Fabregas for what? What is a player with similar attributes like Sneijder supposed to do?

  Ajax has problems putting Van Der Vaart and Sneijder in the same team because of the same issue and same goes in the national team. Real Madrid did not manage to do it too.

  Inter Milan has too many good players. It is just the same lousy tactics that Benitez use. Instead of Gerrard-Torres axis, Inter now has Sneijder-Eto'o axis. Marked either one out and it's game over.
