Rafael Benitez has been given 180 minutes to show Inter he can attack the rot and emerge victorious from what has been a losing battle so far.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims he has just two matches to turn around the struggle.
Failure against Chievo at the weekend and then Twente in the Champions League will see him ousted from the club.
Despite Wednesday's meeting with the club's directorate, the feeling is that Benitez is under strain in a fiercely competitive Serie A.
Benitez's Italian introduction has been a perpetual battle against the irrationalities of injuries and poor form.
Massimo Moratti said he would not be taking "traumatic decisions" with the coach and gave assurances "the project will continue".
However, he will use the two games as the touchstone by which to measure Benitez's fighting capabilities.
Failure will see attention focus on Giovanni Trapattoni and Leonardo - the latest names in the hat for future progress.
wow he fcuked up faster than i thought... expected him to last at least 6 mths.
this guy got strong track record for bringing down great teams
i'm praying Rafa will be next Man Utd manager...............
That is an insult to world class coach like Ah Ben.
The players will gang together to save Ah Ben and thrash their opponents for the next two matches.
You watch the space.

i would wan to see him get fired
Leave him alone lah.
If he is being sacked, there is no show to watch and no one to disturbed.
Inter may be too strong for him to handle.
maybe Rafa will be new coach of Spain ?
that'll be great.............
inter is smarter than liverpool haha. And what was rafa thinking? Going to a team which has won everything. And in the serie A, managers dun last long.
Samuel Eto'o shows his frustration as Chievo score.
Italian champions Inter Milan fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Chievo, as the pressure on new boss Rafael Benitez mounts.
Without the likes of Diego Milito, Walter Samuel, Thiago Motta, Maicon, Julio Cesar and Coutinho for this match, Inter now drop to sixth and are nine points off leaders and city rivals AC Milan. They may also be without striker Samuel Eto'o, who escaped punishment for a chest headbutt on Chievo centre-back Cesar (in a similar fashion to Zinedine Zidane at the 2006 World Cup), as he will surely be given a ban by the Itailan FA.
Sergio Pellissier opened the scoring as he rose high to head home Nicolas Frey's cross and Chievo doubled their lead eight minutes from time as substitute Davide Moscardelli stabbed home from close range.
Eto'o scored a brilliant consolation goal deep into injury time after a fantastic dribble, but reports suggest that boss Benitez may not see the end of his striker's expected ban if the club get anything other than a win against FC Twente in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Juventus moved up to third in Serie A thanks to a 2-0 win at Genoa on Sunday.

did he think he's as good as mourihno?
Rafa Benitez is like our very own PN Sivaji...............
both are clowns that escaped from the circus
Inter coach Rafael Benitez is not at the mercy of his club as president Massimo Moratti issues directions.
He believes reformation is essential to move forward, and wants to see changes against Twente in the Champions League.
Benitez has been challenged publicly by the critics who claimed his time was up. Moratti has illustrated times are critical, but his key message is one of hope, unity and sacrifice.
"I feel irritated after the loss to Chievo, losing is never nice," he told the press.
"Of course, there are many negative situations, especially on the injury front which mean it is hard to change.
"However, we have to go on and respond to the challenges in the league and cup [Champions League]."
Moratti insists he will not give up on Benitez, but read him the script - a thesis for major changes.
"Faith in Benitez? Yes. But let's try to get a result against Twente," he added.
"We have to understand the game on Wednesday is important. We need to be angry or we won't go anywhere."
A vote of confidence is almost always a prequel to a sack.
I have over-estimated and paid too much respect for Benitez. I thought that the liverpool nightmare was a one-off, as he did an excellent job at Valencia. And I thought again, surely he can't do much wrong taking over a team that has won countless consecutive domestic league championships and reigning European champions. How wrong i am! Not only has Inter slid down the league standings, their fierce city rivals are now occupying the top spot!
Rafa's days are numbered. I hope Inter have found a suitable replacement.
even mancini, has managed to win serie a while managing inter. if rafa dun retain the serie a, he is a failure. basically serie a is a 3 horse race between inter, roma and ac milan.
Maybe Ah Ben have a huge compensation payoff if he is being sacked.
Who will be available if Ah Ben is sacked ?
Just have to give him time.
Last time, he did not have a strong team in Liverpool to achieve his glory.
Now, he inherited a champion league winning team.
He should further enhanced the squad if he is really a strong manager.
