Aston Villa are set to sign former Arsenal winger Robert Pires later this week, according to the club's website.
The 37-year-old was released by Spanish club Villarreal in the summer and is available as a free agent.
Pires helped France win the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship as well as winning two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with Arsenal.
Villa's assistant boss Gary McAllister confirmed: "I believe he's going to join us in the next two to three days."

He might be useful to guide and polish the craft of the young Villa Midfielders.
Either that or I'm not sure why he was signed for. I doubt his legs can carry him on the field at 37 years old.
Cos the new boss wants more French players in his squad ?
yeah, he had serve his best years with arsenal.
in fact arsenal should have retain his service for another 2 years to nature the ypung talent. but arsenal rigid contract structure cannot allow over 30 to be offer 2 year contract, at least not to him.
Did you all know jose antonio reyes came to Indonesia to promote football during the recent WC? Wonder why he's not in the spanish squad. He was a big thing at Arsenal when he first came.
another short term expired player deal becos of injuries at villa....we've had these since david o'leary....when will it stop??
after tis season
i doubt Villa to release him
We have no senior def mid now, i dun understand why it's pires....
Pires can start playing for Villa from this sat onward even though the transfer window isn't open yet... I think the guy might have actually retired already that's why he is clubless but Gerard Houllier called him back into the game...
how much is he paid a week in villa?
let me guess, about 20-40k a week?
