Barcelona say there is no deal in place to take Cesc Fabregas to the club and have ruled out the Arsenal captain joining in January.
The Spanish champions have been heavily linked with Fabregas for two years and appeared to be close to getting their man this summer, only for Arsenal to reject two offers.
The Catalan club haven't given up hope of signing the 23-year-old, but with a mountain of debt to cope with any deal for the midfielder has been put on hold for the time being.
Barcelona's director of football Andoni Zubizaretta has now come out to deny reports they already have a deal in place to bring Fabregas to the Nou Camp, and has ruled out making any attempts to sign the World Cup winner in January.
"I have not spoken to Wenger about a guarantee for the transfer next season," said Zubizaretta. "Cesc is a very good footballer, but now I do not say if he enters into our plans for the next season.
"We will value the player, and we will decide. We will plan, and see if Cesc falls into that plan or not.
"We have a squad that has done well, and it is the squad that we wanted. It gives us many options, it is diverse, with players who give us much.
"We will not look for anyone in January. If there are no exceptional circumstances, we will make no signing in the winter market."
