Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are ready to go head-to-head for the signature of winger Ashley Young – if the England star refuses to sign a new contract with Aston Villa.
With Young stalling on putting pen to paper on a new deal with Villa, Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is poised to open the purse strings and sees Young as one of several key targets in the January transfer window, according to The People.
The Reds will be given around £30 million to spend by new owner John W Henry, and Hodgson is keen to add at least two Englishmen to his side, who currently sit in the Premier League relegation zone and won’t be fazed by Young’s £14 million price tag. However, Villa manager Gerard Houllier is still hopeful Young will extend his stay in the Midlands.
Also watching the situation closely is Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who showed interest in the England international during the summer. Any indications
spurs dont need him. they already have bale, lennon and kranjcar

If he has any sense he would join Liverpool or stay at Villa.
