Johan Cruyff is not a big fan of Jose Mourinho's approach
Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff says he has "great respect" for Jose Mourinho but would not want him in charge of his club.
Cruyff, a leading proponent of Total Football during his playing career, is considered to be the man behind the attacking philosophy that defines the modern Barca side after coaching the club from 1988 to 1996.
Mourinho's Real Madrid are now expected to provide a stern challenge to Barca's recent dominance of La Liga, but Cruyff says he is not a fan of his methods.
"I have great respect for Mourinho as a coach, but even with everything he has achieved, he would never be the coach of my team," he told radio station Onda Cero.
"I believe that a technician needs to do more things than make the team play well. They have to represent the club, the institution, and the members.
"In that sense, Rijkaard and Guardiola are good representatives for a world-renowned institution."
Mourinho, meanwhile, says he is starting to develop a strong bond with Real Madrid.
"My empathy here with the players and the club is growing," he said. "We are all on the same wavelength. The fans have a positive feeling and we are building something important."
